I was watching the Bengals game on the All-22. I started noticing that Ernie Sims was all over the place. It is really amazing how much ground he covers over the duration of the game. He blitzes, plays the run, plays zone and man coverage and seems to be around the ball on the majority of plays.

Ernie Sims
Snap count against the Bengals 58 of 62
Contract 1-year, $700K

Dan Connor
Snap count against the Bengals 24 of 62
Contract 2-years 6.5M

Have to pay him if we're going to keep him around. He can start on several teams out there.

dan connor sucks...lol. Guy is glued to blocks. He is terrible in the 3-4. And he seems slower than bradie james.

What? I think this is a relatively low priority. He'd be happy to have a role in an ILB rotation at this point. Though I do think we'd like to keep him in that capacity.

best I"ve seen in a while. My gosh, we'd be COMPLETELY happy with paying Sims the six and a half mil the next two years: guy has been SOLID. Connor: just a BRUTAL signing...typical JJ bufoonery.

Sign him to a max deal and give him Lee or Bruce Carter's spot.

Yep, at the right price, Sims would be a fine addition to the Lee/Carter rotation - hopefully helping keep all 3 fresh and uninjured. He had obvious measurables as a 1st round pick. Get this guy signed as he is relatively young and seems a good fit - and hopefully we can get him at a good long-term price.......

Why would he be happy, he has proved that he can play with the best of them. He's one hell of a player. 700k is not going to keep him here. And even though i don't consider him a top priority, I highly doubt he'll demand too much for us to keep.

This is coming from a Penn State fan who really likes Dan Connor. If it comes down to keeping Connor or Simms, then I take Simms. More upside and more play making ability. If he would take back up pay to be a back up then it is him all day.

I'd like to keep him around to backup Lee and Carter he's actually a very serviceable veteran backup that we've picked up.

personally i dont think Connor was a Jerry signing, i would almost bet that was a Garrett pick. i could be wrong

yup, would sure like to keep this guy around.. Provides nice depth & could see plenty of playing time in certain packages

I think that's a no-brainer at this point. Simms struggles some in the run game but at least has the speed & quickness to bail him out of trouble at times. Connor, who we were told is a thumper, struggles to get the hole, can't get off blocks and doesn't seem to really bring much thump. For comparison, the Bengals' "thumpers" Malauga and Burfict were really bringing it. Not so much in their tackles but they were blowing up our OGs all day. I haven't seen that type of physicality from Connor all year. And obviously Simms has better coverage skills.

Ideally, you'd like to have a younger guy back there backing up Carter and Lee if possible. A lower round draft pick or undrafted free agent...

how much is going to cost to cut this bum?

While I think people are clearly exaggerating Conners poor play....his contract isn't desirable to say the least, and Simms' most certainly is. Big fan of that pick up.

It is 4.375M to keep Connor.

Cutting him results in cap hits of 675K in 2013 and 675K in 2014.

What. Those two are much better than Sims but he has been good, revitalized his career.

Sims has definitely earned his spot and a deal.

Spencer may be our defensive MVP this year, he's been playing lights out. I'd still try to franchise him and play hard ball for another year but I'd have no problem if they extended him long term - dude is a force against the run and pass and seems to finally have put it together.
