Cowboys goal with the 12th pick

I don't know. This team has so many needs, I would not be upset if they went WR, RB, CB, DE, or DT in the first round.

For that matter I could even justify an offensive lineman if a top prospect slides.

Guyton - 1st, Beebe 3rd
Smith - 1st

Parsons - 1st
Mazi - 1st
Williams - 2nd
Kneeland - 2nd
Osa - 3rd

How much more investing can they do?

Out of 5 OL, 3 were day 1 or 2 picks. Martin was also a first.

On DL all four starters are day 1 and 2 picks.

Out of 9 possible starters in the trenches they invested 7 day 1/2 picks out of 9. It would have been 8 if Martin returned
Dang... I nominate this for post of the year.

Build from outside in or inside out doesn't really matter if you limit yourself to mostly guys you draft with a few free agent signings that don't move the needle to the win column. You need more than the draft to build a complete team. You have got to sign a difference maker or 3 along with some good drafting. Especially if they miss on a player. If they went out and signed 1 legit run stuffing DT and 1 legit MLB then went out and had a good draft to get some much needed depth they would absolutely be a playoff contender barring injury. But they won't.

Guess I heard it differently, he said with the 12th pick that you are looking for a dynamic playmaker that can get to the QB or one that can score touchdowns or one that can prevent getting to the QB or one that can take a WR out of the game. So with the 12th pick, you are building from the outside in. Seems like every NFL team is doing the same thing especially with the first 10 picks of the draft.

You don't see many OC or OG or DT1 or ILB or S taken that high. Frankly, with this draft, I only see really 2 definite difference maker in Carter and Travis. If those guys not named that were in last year's draft then QBs Ward and Sanders and Dart would have been 2nd rounders or later and same goes for the OTs, DEs, Edge and RBs with exception of Jeanty. Better hope McClay hits on guys that have that hidden potential.
Not every NFL team. Philly took DT in back to back years. For some reason they can stop the run and get to the Super Bowl. Hmm. Of course they have a real GM…

Jerry should do nothing but trade the 12th pick. If my GM hat is on, it goes as follows:

Call Denver at pick 12 and offer it up to Denver for picks 20 and 51.

When 20 comes along, and you still have 3 of McMillan, Burden, Egbuka or Golden on the board. You call LAR and trade our 20 for their 26 and 90 picks.

At 26 you will have BALT, DET and WASH next after you. You have to think at least one of the WR will still be left on draft board. But those 3 teams have other pressing holes to plug rather then WR. But Buffalo right after them, would have a hole to fill in their WR core. So you gamble and make one last small trade down to recoup a 4th rounder and trade #26 to WASH for their #29 and 4th round #128.

In my mock, I have just turned pick #12 into #29, #51, #90, #128. This to go along with #44 and #76 that I already had. That is 6 picks in the top 130 of the draft. My mock is as follows:

#29 - Matthew Golden (WR) Texas
#44 - Trey Amos (CB) Mississippi
#51 - Quinshon Judkins (RB) Ohio State
#76 - Carson Schwesinger (LB) UCLA
#90 - Brayden Swinson (Edge) LSU
#128 - Ty Robinson (DL) Nebraska
#149 - Jackson Slater (IOL) Sacramento State
#171 - Dillon Gabriel (QB) Oregon
#174 - Danny Stutsman (LB) Oklahoma
#204 - Jaylen Reed (S) Penn State
#211 - Ajani Cornelius (OT) Oregon
#239 - Jaylin Smith (CB) USC
#247 - Jaylin Lane (WR) Virginia Tech
Great stuff man.
Anything even remotely similar to this kinda draft day outcome could really set a firm future foundation.

Appreciate the work you put in on this post even if just a what if scenario.

Other than a special teams specialists or a tight end the need is there. They best draft the best available guy with the potential of having a long, solid NFL career. Virtually all the position groups need serious help. Just go get the best available guy. And keep doing it all thru this draft round by round. This team needs talent. Lots of talent.

Disagree with him when he said" you build it from the outside-in".

Ever since 2016 they've been doing that exact thing and that's why they can't run the ball and can't stop the run.

I'm a believer in building it from the "inside-out" where the trenches are the main thing.

No wonder Jerry hired him
I believe Philly built it from the inside out

I heard him talking about how important it is to win at the line of scrimmage. Don’t know about the outside in stuff but I liked when I heard that

I prefer the most impactful starter at a position of need over the best player available approach this year.

I know, not supposed to draft for need, but I see no use for another tight end for example.

I'm a DT, RB, WR, CB kinda guy.
In that order.
Of course you draft for need. Stupid not to. What you don't do is reach for need, or pass up a much better prospect for need.

To draft effectively, need of team and talent of players must be evaluated closely. There's really no such thing as BPA for most draft picks anyway. I mean, sometimes there is, but mostly you have a group of 2-15 or so players that are pretty close as far as prostpects go.

Perfect, so we can lose because we still can't stop the run.
