Cowboys had 3 glaring issues heading into preseason. All have gotten worse

Before TC the 3 biggest issues for the Cowboys were:

1) WR depth
2) OL depth
3) Kicker

One week into camp Washington goes down and through 2 preseason games Tolbert looks like asking him to be more than a 3rd/4th WR week 1 is too much (which is perfectly normal for a 3rd round WR from South Alabama). So relying on Fehoko and Noah Brown neither of whom could make the active roster last year except for some ST snaps.

Tyron has a health issue flare up 2 months before expected. His health is only going to be average the rest of the season. He doesn’t ever fully recover at his age. It’s just pain management

Kicker. Team came into camp with 2 kickers. Cut both and now are on their third who they also cut 3 years ago.

For all those who said the team was fine and wouldn’t have to worry about Tyron’s health or WR depth, how are you feeling now?

You think those people who claimed they weren’t concerned then are all of a sudden going to back down? Of course not. This team has issues for sure. Parsons has to be a superhero and carry this team. And he might be able to.

Can't fault the Cowboys for what happened at kicker. They brought in young guys to compete, like fans have been clamoring for for many years - and neither could get it done. As much of a roller coaster as it is to watch Maher kick, he's got more NFL experience - and there's something to be said for that.

I have a feeling the Steelers are going to cut Nick Sciba since Boswell just got the extension.

Sign him, and the position is set for at least the next half decade. The Cowboys probably don't even know who the kid is, or even that Wake Forest has a football team.

It does kind of seem that way.

The news that we are not starting Gallup on PUP might mitigate the receiver situation some, but only if he's actually healthy enough to return after a couple of games. I still think our main plan is to use Pollard more as a receiver.

Tyron's injury scare, if it's not worse than that, might cause the team to make a move, but it seems to me that the plan there is for Steele to go to left tackle if Tyron is out and Martin to go to right tackle with Tyler and McGovern manning the guard spots. McCarthy has never been shy about moving linemen around.

I'm not completely down on Maher. He did improve last season, making nearly 86 percent of his FGs, which makes him around average. My concern is that that was just one year out of his career, and not even a full one at that. I'll hope he's found his focus, like he says he has, if we decided to go with him, but I have my doubts.

I was a big proponent of signing Garibay and was for adding Hallelujah as competition, so I had no problem with what the Cowboys did or giving up on Garibay to bring in a vet. With the best vet they could find at the time being Maher, I'm all for someone like Sciba being given a shot.

OL depth was terribly mismanaged
Now that chicken is coming home to roost
With Tyrone's serious injury.

I came into camp expecting less than what this team achieved last season, so these setbacks are easier to take.

What's frustrating to me is the front office repeatedly convincing themselves that their creation is better than it actually is.

It's always "we like our guys" then something happens and reactive mode kicks in. If only they could be fired...

How we cannot address glaring holes in the roster is beyond me.
We have cap space.
It's maddening.

Feeling surprisingly OK with what we've seen and heard about some of the young receivers. How that translates into the regular season remains to be seen.

Offensive tackle is definitely getting scarier with Tyron out, Ball having a bad preseason, and Waletzko being out most of camp. Even if the receivers are fine, will Dak be provided enough time from his blind side?

How do we know the O-line got worse? The Tyron Smith that was trying to play this season isn't the same guy in his prime. It could be that, after a few weeks, the dropoff in talent at LT isn't really that severe compared to what we might have had.

Quite often the #2 WR on a team is actually the 4th or 5th when it comes to number of receptions. You can expect Pollard and Elliott to increase their receptions as well as Schultz.

As for the kicker, Maher isn't going to be the most accurate, let's make sure he isn't one of the most active. The best cure for unreliable field goal kicking is scoring TD's.

I'm not ready to start chugging the hemlock quite yet.
