Cowboys have any interest in Quentin Groves?

With Wade's passion for pass rushers do you think we'll be in the market for Groves services via the draft. Had it not been for his toe injury last year he would certainly be a 1st rd pick. I think he's a more natural fit as a 3-4 OLB than Spencer is.

Grove's size and athleticism is real and he could be another beast for our defense. Move Ellis back to DE on passing downs and let Groves play the role that Spencer played this year.

Then have two first round picks on the bench?

No Thank you.

They need time to develop, you can't expect a first round pick to come in and contribute immediately. This is the NFL.

I just think he'll get drafted higher than we'd want to take an OLB.

But I bet we do take a developmental type guy later in the draft, maybe an athletic but raw guy who can be groomed for when Ellis is gone.

So what would happen to Spencer? You do realize that Wade said he needed to get Spencer on the field more. Spencer showed flashes of being a beast, especially at the end of the year.

In some ways, I kind of wished Greg Ellis never came back.

Bite your tongue.

If we only have Spencer and Ware we are one injury away from having a mediocre pass-rush at best. We need to be on the lookout for mid to late round outside rushers every year in the draft.

If he's there at our 2nd round pick, I'd bet he's on the radar.

That wasn't the point. The poster said he thinks that he is a better fit than Spencer at the OLB position and that he should be playing the role of Spencer.

I was talking about Bobby C and then either Groves or Spencer being on the bench.

Well PHILLIPS is the one who DRAFTED Spencer to be his O.L.B., we will NOT be drafting him!

So you want to spend ANOTHER 1st round pick on ANOTHER O.L.B. and just let Spencer ride the bench?
I dont' get it!
Spencer played very good and got great pressure when he played, he is gonna be Ware's bookend O.L.B. for the next decade, so NO, we will not be drafting Groves because that would be like drafting another T.E. in round 1, just wouldn't make any sense at all!

He's saying he doesn't think Groves will be in the first round, because of his toe injury. Just like the original poster said in his original post. So in that case, we wouldn't be drafting another OLB in the first round.

Don't jump to conclusions so fast, think things through a bit.

You want us to draft a player that can be groomed for after Ellis leaves. Isn't that why we drafted Spencer? BTW: I have the impression from Wade that Spencer played well his first year and much is expected of him this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he sees a lot more action cause the reality is he's much better against the run then is Ellis.

Spencer played better than Ware at times. Spencer is a beast, and Wade has already said he needs to find ways to get Spencer on the field more.

The only reason they didn't play him more is because of Greg Ellis coming back and garnering a lot of sacks.

Like I said, sometimes I wish Spencer was playing a full season and Greg wasn't here.

In a weird way I agree, and I think Spencer wins rookie of the year if not for Ellis being here, and oh yeah, that guy from SF! LOL
I think while I love Ellis rushing from one side and Ware from the other on passing downs, we MUST put Spencer at L.D.E. when we are in passing situations with Ware at R.D.E. and put Ellis at D.T. along with Canty or Hatcher, cause I want ALL of our best pass rushers in there in obvious passing situations.

My Lord can you people not read tonite!

I said move Ellis to DE as a situational pass rusher and then let Groves play the role that Spencer played this year( ie: backup)--- SPENCER'S BACKUP. Let Spencer start opposite Ware and let Groves be the backup. And I wasn't advocating taking him in the first rd that's why I said I thought he'd drop in the draft due to his toe injury.

But you better believe Wade loves him some pressure and whether we like it or not he'll prob add some more pressure players.

Sorry... but you have to admit, your phrasing wasn't really clear, especially when you said the following:

I think he's a more natural fit as a 3-4 OLB than Spencer is.

OK sorry. What I was trying to say was that I think that at this stage of their careers Groves is a more natural OLB where I felt like Spencer was more of a 4-3 DE coming out of college.

Groves will probably be a very good situational pass rusher, whethers its as a 3rd down RDE in a 4-3 or as a pass rushing OLB in the 3-4

honestly for us though I'm more interested in his teammate, CB Patrick Lee...not getting much pub at all but had a very good year at Auburn in his only yr as a starter...
