Cowboys have Leaders

Im sure like me most fans thought the biggest problem Dallas had was lack of leadership. Glad to say i believe that is no longer a problem. I see 3 leaders and 1 in the making. Not just leaders who are vocal but who actually improve the team with their play on the field. A talk to talk walk the walk type of player.

Sean Lee, is the leader of this team period. Not Romo, Witten, Ware and for damn sure not their HC. But LEE. This guys could end up being the nfl's DEFMVP. He is the best tackler in the nfl, probably the best covering LBer in the NFL and is the smartest LBer in the NFL. Nobody reads a def better. What was his biggest hurdle was the injury bug. Lee is nowhere near the most athletic LBer in the NFL but that dont matter when you know your posistion and everybody elses and you study film. Add in the desire this guy has to be the best. Dat had this desire in him but i dont even think to the extent Lee has. The great thing about Lee is we still havent seen him hit his ceiling. He's still getting better and thats amazing. You see improvement in him every week.

Jason Hatcher, IDC what anybody says. Hatcher is a MUST sign this offseason. He is what makes this DL function the way it does right off the snap. Say what you want about his age, but he has limited wear on his body because early in his career Dallas didnt know if they wanted to bulk him up to play inside or play him at DE. Truth be told Parcells almost ruined a few players careers in Dallas to name a few were Gurode, Romo and Hatcher. Hatcher creates so many mismatches inside its not even fair. Teams cant single him with the Center because he goes right over him, and he has the speed to split the the gap and beat that double team. And he plays both inside spots so teams cant gameplan him at one single spot because he's on both sides. Doing different things. Then there that intimating look he has now. The attitude to go along the skill. The attitude is what is most different about him. Now he just seems to expect to beat his man. When he gets a penalty whereas before he was arguing with refs now he's yelling at himself. ACCEPTING responsibility for his penalty. He's going to cost a little but you dont let a player like him walk. Because he has something that you cant buy, and thats LEADERSHIP.

Brian Waters, This OL has gotten better and is to the point where they are protecting Romo so much that for long periods of the game he isnt getting touched. Water brings that nasty attitude thats rubbed off on Fredrick and Free. You see him yelling out the assignments along the OL. You see him pulling and pounding LBers and DBs. IMO now the problem with the running game is not the OL. Its the quality of the RB Dallas has. They dont have a RB to run inside. Or they dont have the exp and vision to see the hole. Because if you watch the OL closely you will see there are big holes to run through out there. These RBs just arent hitting them. Murray is a one cut RB and as many RBs have said this about him he runs into darkness and leaves yards on the field. Dallas needs a pounder running the ball IMO. Murray could be that guy is he wasnt made of glass. Without Waters on the OL i think we see alot of what we saw last yr. Romo having to create and then comes the INTs. There no secret why Romo hasnt thrown many picks this yr its because this OL is protecting him.

Leader in the Making, Travis Fredrick. You see alot of Waters rubbing off on Fredrick. The extra punch to the chest he gives a LBer in the 2nd level, or the elbow he puts on a DL. I love see that. He still struggles against the stunt a little but experience will get rid of that. If its not clear Dallas traded down for Fredrick was the right choice then youre blind to your own wants for the Dallas Cowboys. Because Fredrick is on his way to becoming one of the best Cs in the NFL while Floyd has 3 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Kinda reminds you of his College career right?

This team is moving in the right direction no matter how pessimist you want to be. No matter how much you hate Jerry Jones or in my case JG and Romo. This team is doing the right things to get to where they want to go.

Would you feel this way if they were 2-5?

FWIW I agree with most of that

Yes, because win or loss you cant dismiss what you see from these guys on the field and on the sidelines. Being a leader has nothing to do with a win loss record.

What about witten. Or Bryant?

Witten has never been a leader in Dallas. Great player but never a guy who has taken on that responsibility. I will say when he played with that spleen injury was something you have to respect. Bryant IMO isnt a leader yet. He's still working on himself. But later i believe he'll be having Wrs look up to him as a mentor. Thats where i think his legacy will be detrimined. Just a very good WR or a Great player.

OK. So
Ware isnt a leader?
Witten isnt a leader?
Romo isnt a leader?

Lee and Waters are great to have but I dont ever think leadership was the issue.

I eagerly await your direct evidence (one way or another) of leadership. Regale us with those stories within the locker room, at practice, and in games that we so love to hear!

The guys he mentioned, are not afraid of conflict, that's what seperate them from the ware, witten, and romo.

I think it's a bit much for fans to try and say who the "leaders" are. Not that I mind you speculating... it just seems to me that like "elite" QBs, leaders are labeled after the fact (finish 7-9 and play great and you're a loudmouth, play worse but win the Super Bowl and you're a leader).

Ive never heard of a player say i go to Romo Witten or Ware. Ive never seen players on the sidelins huddled around any of them except romo when he's talking with the OL. You see players around these 3 players constantly. You see them reacting to them on the field. I just dont think Ware and Witten have ever wanted that responsibility. Theyre kind of reserved it seems. Romo IMo if he cant even take accountability for his own mistakes how can he expect players to look for him to leadership. Now between whistles Romo does his thing good or bad. All 3 of them do. But its after the whistles is what seperates Lee Hatcher and Waters from Ware Witten and Romo.

Leaders isn't the problem with this team, it's "talent" along the offensive and defensive lines, that's where Football games are won...

Dallas Cowboys are tied for 8th in sacks on the DL and are 12th in the nfl with least sacks. And anybody that actually watches the game would agree that half of those sacks have been Romo holding on to the ball too long.
