The Dallas Cowboys are about to embark on a journey they hope leads them to a result different than the ones that keep coming up. Each year, they pull the handle on the slot machine and each year it does something different than land on the jackpot. Can 2021 be any different? According to the latest odds, the chances are long.

Dallas is one of several teams given +4000 odds to win the Super Bowl, according to Bet MGM’s latest lines. That ties them for 15th best in a league where only 14 teams make the playoffs. If those results come to be realized, then the Cowboys are missing the dance for the third time in a row.

Wow, might have to take that bet!

....I watched the dice roll with Tampa last year. I had conversations with few Tampa fans, told them around the 10th game, I felt Tampa could be making noise and getting to SB. It wasn't just Brady, but that tenacious defense.

Boy, had no clue how crazy it looks now.

Point being, its anyone's year given you have substance at right time to pull it off.

That is not in any way what would happen if the odds were followed. They are in fact tied for 15th best odds but there are 9 AFC teams in front of them (and two of the teams they are tied with are AFC teams as well) thus giving them tied for 6th best odds in NFC.

THEN you add in that they are the top odds of any team in the NFC East and you could extrapolate that the oiddsmakers have them making the playoffs (via winning the division) but doing nothing once they get there.

Whoever wrote this article put no effort into it whatsoever and just wanted to get clicks.

Long odds indeed. Those that continue to think that the Cowboys should be winning the SB with this defense continue to show their lack of understanding of the game of football.

Good. They should post that in the locker room.

Thank you for taking the time to figure all of that out. Much appreciated and a good job.

Take a pic of that and compare that to the end of the season and just for grins, do that in the past 10 seasons, they're wrong about half the time about teams after the first 4.

Every season, we have teams that disappoint and surprise and the Cowboys have done both. What were their odds of even having a winning season in 2016 with a 3rd string rookie 4th round QB? They ended up with the homefield.

There are two kinds pf people that talk about odds, NFL people and Vegas people and they're not the same. The Vegas people have but one job, motivate betting. That's all they care about.

Now do I think the Cowboys are a SB caliber team? No, I do not. I'd bet on GB or LAR making it. Followed by TB and SEA.

Hasn't that become the norm? Just get something out there and try and be first.

Sports is a direct reflection in our general news. Everything is designed to generate revenue or it is useless.

I would take it after the week 1 loss to TB, I figure they’ll pull it together after that.

Wow, those Bet MGM odds have a 20% overround. Is that typical? (I'm not a gambler).

As someone pointed out, the interpretation is really stupid: the Cowboys have the best odds in the NFC East, meaning that these odds imply the Cowboys WILL make the playoffs, not the opposite as the article suggests.

True . Just one little caveat.

Vegas job is to instill a line so equal betting on both sides and clean up on the juice which is 10% , win or lose.

If there’s lopsided betting on one side they have to lay it off at other venues . It’s how the line varies at different times or places .

Wow, those Bet MGM odds have a 20% overround. Is that typical? (I'm not a gambler). Factoring that in, they give the Cowboys just slightly below a 1/32 chance, implying they see them as an average-ish team. But as someone pointed out, the interpretation is really stupid: the Cowboys have the best odds in the NFC East, meaning that these odds imply the Cowboys WILL make the playoffs, not the opposite as the article suggests.
This is an interesting point. Because of the fact we are in worst division our chances of making the playoffs are greater than if we were in another division which gives us a little greater chance of breaking thru than we’d otherwise have.

While some have picked us to win the East , I don’t think we’d be picked to win any other division and our odds would be far lower to make SB.
