Because if they find a coach they like but wait around hoping for someone even better they run the risk of ending up with neither. If they feel good enough about Alexander there isn't a reason to wait around and take the risk.
They aren't looking for a head coach, or an offensive/defensive coordinator. Not hard to find a position coach, no hurry.

Since when does Jerry care what fans think? If so, we'd have a Super bowl by now.
In all fairness, the same can be said for all the owners. And which of us would he hear out? That being said, our fate was set a while back and he doesn't seem to be backing away the current coaching leadership.

If it's not hard to find a position coach then what difference does it make which one they get? It seems you are playing both sides of the fence to create a complaint - saying on one hand the O-Line coach is important enough they should wait for an uncertain chance at something even better even though they have someone they like now, but not so important that it matters if by waiting they end up with neither.

My point wasn't that Jerry cares about complaints, it's that fans will complain no matter which way the team goes, therefore it's difficult to take the complaints seriously. That;'s why your comment about winning a Super Bowl isn't necessarily logical - should he worry about the complaints of fans that say go East or the fans that say go West? The ones that say up or down? The ones that say take this coach or that, this player or that?

I actually like the hire. The Bengals offensive lines haven't been bad at all when healthy.

You can't give someone your word while they're playing in the playoffs?

Nothing we say matters to Jerry, so it's pointless for any of us to fight about it. But not supporting Jerry's business is another matter.

Interesting comments from Romo and it does shed some light on why teams make a change.

In regards to Alexander, a lot of people seem to think the run game will take a nose dive with him coming on board.

Well, you look at the Bengals history of OCs. Nobody was complaining when it was Jay Gruden running their offense. Then it was Hue Jackson, followed by Ken Zampese (fired) and finally Bill Lazor.

If what Romo states here applies to all teams, that could shed some light on why he elected to depart.

his resume is particularly strong in teaching tackles. With Collins needing this and the possibility of soon replacing Tyron, this might be one of the primary reasons for hiring him.

Not just booted. His firing was the only way Marvin Lewis would return as head coach.
That is basically urban legend amongst Bengal fans.

And even if true. Whoa. This would be like a high end Jason Garrett making demands.

I have not seen it confirmed as fact but if you look at the math it adds up. Lewis was gone, he let people know he was done and was considering taking a job in the Front Office. Brown had meetings with him, and suddenly he was back with a new contract (Jan 2). Alexander was let go the next day. Lots of rumors that Lewis and Alexander did not see eye to eye.

And again.

How is Lewis some sort of paragon?

For all we know, he is in the family portrait just like Garrett is in Dallas.
