Pretty nice interview with Sean Lee, but the key element was more focus on what would happen next year. I think what was clarified but obviously not cemented in stone was the idea that Sean Lee will be the player moving to a new position.

Lee talked about never having played the mike position before. He played the Sam in college, and then he played the Will in the 3-4.

So he said last year was his first year playing the mike. It'll be interesting to see if he is calling the defense from the Will or even if they end up putting him at the sam spot. I think it's really all up in the air.

From my understanding that Sam spot is the least important of the three linebacker positions, and putting him there would be a waste, but maybe that's not the case.

I have to say, I'm not sure how this will work out, but I'm excited about having them both on the field at the same time. I think that is one of the most overlooked elements going into next year.

Sean Lee was the best defensive player we had on this team, getting him back means a lot. And as hard on Durant as many of us have been, by many accounts he was the best player on this defense (some went with scandrick) and played very well early on in the season. And we'll be getting him back. Hitchens will hopefully continue to develop.

I think linebacker is going to be a real strength for us next year, so it's going to be about getting the other position groups up to snuff. And I think they all have potential.

with health, the defense should be pretty good just by keeping the same guys we have now....of course, there will be changes (like rookies, DLaw having a full pre-season, Mo, Lee, Durant, etc.), but the D will be much better with some health...the question is, can they stay on the field?

So what you are saying is..

we finally have FOUR solid LBers on the team.

Meaning we finally have the personnel to run the 3-4 correctly?

Does that mean Ryan is returning as the DC?

No..no..no

I'm slowly backing away from my tablet and leaving the internet..

I think Mo is done and I'm pretty much done with him. Maybe he can finally get it but him being gone this year didnt turn out to be the worst thing in the world.

I am too, but I WOULD like to see how he performs with a real Dline in front of him. Similar to what happened with Carr in the last game, I believe he could be at least serviceable if he doesnt have to cover the receiver for an hour and a half.

Pretty much how I feel. I think Mo starts the year on PUP or IR-return, so he's going to miss most of the year. He is just not the player we thought he would be coming out of college. Happens to a lot of players. Time to move on from him.

Not unless your planning on Ryan playing some strange *** 3-4 with 4 inside linebackers & no edge rushers, because none of our current linebackers could do it except maybe Ro who I somehow doubt he wants to do. (Or else we likely would have seen it at some point in his career by now)

One nice thing is that we will have the ability to rotate/rest some of these guys and with that possibly avoid injury.... that would be a welcomed change

We may have 4 LB but none IMHO can play well in the 3-4 Lee possibly, we do not have the DL for a 3-4 not to mention switching to the 3-4 would negate the young and up and coming stud that Crawford looks to be growing into. Is it just me does Crawford remind anyone of young Russell Maryland.

Maybe Tony Cassius maybe.

Yes..he's a keeper for sure.

And I was sort of tongue-in-cheek with my answer.

But I would not put it past Marinelli to play with it once everybody is healthy for change up defense.

I would not be so fast to let Mo go. Look at Terence Newman and Pacman Jones in Cincinnati. they are both playing better than they did for us/

Big difference. Newman was physical and fast....PacMan was fast.....both were returners. Claiborne was not super fast to begin with....and was never overly physical. When you couple that with the type of injury he sustained....he is not a guy I would count on. And he was really not a guy I was counting on before the injury!

Claiborne's salary is guaranteed. He'll be on the team in 2015.

I see zero chance that Lee plays the SLB position in this defense. If McClain returns, Lee will be the WLB and one of the 2 LBs in the Nickel Defense which is over 50% of the snaps. McClain will likely not play 100% of the snaps. They'll rest him at times when they are in Nickel.

I think Durant is a free agent so he will have to be signed again if he comes back.
