Cowboys' identity in 2016 must center around passing game

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas-cowb...s-identity-has-to-be-the-passing-game-in-2016

IRVING, Texas -- So what is the Dallas Cowboys' identity offensively?

The other day Jean-Jacques Taylor wrote the Cowboys have to get back to the formula that worked so well in 2014 when they ran it 50.1 percent of the time and took pressure off Tony Romo. In 2015, the Cowboys ran it 42.1 percent of the time and that was with Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore starting 12 games.

Jacques and I will just have to agree to disagree on this subject.

The offense didn't suffer in 2015 because the Cowboys did not run it enough. They lost because the passing game was stale...

I think the identity of the offense should be based on a strong running game which would make play action passes much more effective and wear down defenses so that we could see a lot more of the "win the game" snaps late in the 4th q.

The Cowboys aren't going to abandon the running game.

But the passing game is/was a car-wreck.

Even the first game and a half, before Romo was injured, the passing game offense didn't look so sharp.

The run/pass percentage was more pass last season because the Cowboys were behind so often.

It's the passing game that puts up points and there's a reason why this offense had its worst season since 2002. And it wasn't because the running game was 6th in the NFL.

I agree with this that our passing game did suffer and was a major factor for the stale offense. I will say that we should not neglect a good running game as it is usually the reason why a good passing game wins games. Have to keep defenses honest wih a balanced attack. We all know what happens to those flash and dash passing attacks with out a running game to go with it.

Passing game was bad last year, but not all of that was on QB. Some of that was on coaching staff and gameplanning.

A chunk of it was due to the wide receivers and the loss/inefficiency of Bryant.
