I wonder if alot of Romo's poor play in December and January is due to weather.
2006 (2-3 record, 2-1 on the road, 0-2 at home)
W 20-23 versus Giants in NY
L 17-42 versus NO in Dallas
W 38-28 versus Atl in Atl
L 31-39 versus Detroit in Dallas
L 20-21 versus Seattle in Seattle
He lost both home games but you can pin those ones on the defense giving up 81 points in 2 games. In the NO game he didn't play particularly well but it is hard to judge because the Saints jumped all over us. In the game against Detroit he is 23 of 32 for 321 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT.
On the road, he has a bad game in NY 20 of 34 and 257 yards but no TDs and 2 INTs. The gametime temperature was 45 and probably windy. He makes a great throw late to Witten that helps us win at the end. In the win at Atlanta he plays very well but it is in a dome. In the loss at Seattle it is in the low 40s and wet and Romo has a poor game.
So in the two road outside games with bad weather conditions he makes mistakes.
2007 (2-3 record, 2-1 road and 0-2 at home)
W 27-28 at Detroit Romo has a good game (302 yards, 2td 0int)
L 6-10 at home against Philly, romo has bad game (13/36, 214 yards, 0td, 3 int)
W 20-13 at Carolina Romo okay (257 yards, 1td, 1int)
L 6-27 at Washington - (7/16 86 yards, 1int)
L 17-21 at home against NYG (18/36, 201 yards, 1td, 1int)
The temp in philly loss at home was 49F so not bad but Philadelphia played very well and beat us.
The temp in Carolina was okay at 51F and Romo was okay but his numbers were good in the first half and then everything slowed down for us once TO got injured.
The temp in Washington was only 39 with rain so very bad conditions and Romo had his worst game of the season but it has to be taken with a grain of salt.
The temp in playoff game was 59F and clear. I think the thing people don't understand in this game is that it wasn't so much that Romo was bad but the OL was horrifically bad in this game and Romo was hurt by two critical drops - one by Crayton and one by Fasano
2008 (1-3, 1-1 home, 0-2 road)
L 13-20 at Pitt (19/36, 210 yards, 1td, 3ints)
W 20-8 vs NYG (20/30 244 yards, 2td, 0ints)
L 24-33 vs Bal (24/45, 252yards, 2td, 2ints)
L 6-44 at Phil (21/39 183 yards 0td, 1int)
The loss at pittsburgh had bad weather and Romo was very bad.
The win against the Giants had good weather at home and Romo played very good here.
The loss against Baltimore was at home with decent weather and Romo played okay overall, not his greatest game
The loss in Philly at the end of the year, weather was okay at 62F and this just looked like a global team failure rather than Romo played bad so we lost.
2009
Well this one is ongoing and I won't comment directly on it. We are 2-2 overall, 1-1 on road and 1-1 at home
The one thing that glares out at me is the bad weather games with low temps and/or moisture were associated with poor Romo performances in particular. I am thinkng of NY and Seattle in 2006 season, Washington in the 2007 season and Pittsburgh in the 2008 season.
Since we need Romo to be playing well to have a good shot at winning, I think we are better off playing on the road in warm cities or cooler cities with a dome. For this reason, I really don't want to end up in Philly or GB for any of the playoff games. I do believe there is a high probability of getting this outcome if we beat Philly next week.
I don't think we on the board should have a non-chalant attitude since it seems Romo may have had more success on the road. He has had some success on the road but only on days with mild weather. Furthermore, some of his losses at home have occurred because the defense was terrible (2006 NO and Det), the OL was terrible (NYG 2007), or the other team was just better on that day (Balt 2008, SD 2009). The one home loss which seemed to have poor play from Romo was Philly in 2007 but I believe that was a revenge game and a game where Romo hurt his thumb.
In summary, for our playoff run I think it is very important for this offense not to be in a bad weather city like GB and Philadelphia.
