Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips indicated the club has been ahead of the curve in terms of handling players who have incurred a concussion.
The NFL this week instituted a new policy designed to be more protective of players who have had a concussion. According to Phillips, the athletic training staff headed by Jim Maurer considers the concussion policy instituted this week by the NFL to be similar to what the Cowboys have followed for the last 15 years.
``Our staff and doctors are familiar with how we want to do these things,'' Phillips said. ``I'm confident we've been doing the right thing for a long time. It's a violent game. We certainly don't want anybody to be injured.''

The chances of Dallas Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin returning for Sunday's game at the New York Giants dwindled to almost zero when he did not participate in Thursday's practice.
Hamlin has missed the last two games because of a high ankle sprain. He did rehab work on the field during practice but did not participate in any drills
