Draft Diamonds Prospect Interview: Matt Hall, OL, Belhaven

Matt Hall is the best unknown secret in the NCAA. The former Arkansas/Ole Miss transfer is a monster. At 6’9 and 300 plus pounds he could be the strongest player in the draft. He is a huge gym rat and if he does get the chance to go to the NFL Scouting Combine, Hall could bench 225, 40 times. He is a monster in the gym and with that arm span you would think it would be harder, but he makes it look easy.

How many teams were recruiting you out of high school?

I got offered from 4 schools in high school
University of Arkansas
University of Mississippi
University of Missouri
Florida State University

Where did you choose and why?

I commuted to Arkansas when I was a junior in high school because it was my Home state and I wanted to play for Coach Houston Nutt

What were your goals for your senior year?

My goals are to be the best player I can be and to get drafted.

Have any scouts met with you, and if so what are they saying?

Every team has been through Belhaven and they all say good things that I move well for a big guy can bend and can have potential.

At your position, what separates you from the others?

What separates me from the other players is defiantly size and strength I am one of the strongest tackles in the nation and it’s not bad when u also have the wingspan that I have.

Tell us what you look for when breaking down film?

When I break down film I always look at the opponents feet is he quick? Is he strong? Is he good with his hands? Does he show anything in his stance what’s his pass rush like? How does he play the run? Does he try and move you or stand up and look around for the ball.

Hall, 21, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Sunday on the following charges, according to Oxford Police Department chief Mike Martin: DUI, simple assault, domestic violence, failure to yield and malicious mischief.

About all I could find. I wonder if he has earlier talent and this contributes to his lower ranking or is he just going to be a journeyman.

Matt Hall (OT, Belhaven) is a massive prospect at a listed 6'10". It's impossible not to feel a little dwarfed standing next to Hall, who is at least head and shoulders taller than most of his teammates. He is raw, though, like most small-school linemen and had trouble with speed-rushers throughout the week.

Hall has the length and flashes of kick slide balance to still be worth a developmental grade by teams.

An interesting prospect on display was Belhaven right tackle Matt Hall. The massive 6-foot-10, 320-pounder has some power to his game. He did better in run blocking than pass protection as West Virginia's Will Clarke gave him some problems with speed rushes that incorporated swim and spin moves. If Hall can show improvement over the course of the week, he could be an interesting developmental prospect.

can't say anything about the domestic violence, but the rest sounds like a kid that went to a party, got drunk, and some other big dude probably pushed his buttons...

It's typical to throw the book at someone initially then let it unfold.

His size makes you wonder about his feet. He's tall for a guard but it happens. If he can't play OT I wonder if he can play the 3. Or a 3-4 DE.

He is a big boy, but very slow against fast quick linemen or linebakers, but if gets your hands on you, its over, however this could be a kid as good as Joe Jacoby was for the hogs way back and he was huge to, as # 75 watch him in film:
