Cowboys interview Saints RB Coach Derrick Foster

Someone said to me this morning "okay you're excited but is there any way the Cowboys could be in an even better position?" and I just flippantly said "talk to Derrick Foster" never believing it could happen.

Well here we are.

Derrick Foster enters his first season with the New Orleans Saints as running backs coach after the 13-year coaching veteran spent his first three NFL seasons in the same position with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Prior to leading the running backs group for the Bolts, Foster spent three seasons at the University of Iowa (2018-20). Foster joined the Hawkeyes after a two-year stint at Samford University (2016-17), where he served as run game coordinator/running backs coach, helping lead the Bulldogs to two-straight FCS playoff appearances. Prior to his time in Homewood, Ala., Foster coached three seasons at Northwestern State (La.) from 2013-15. In the two years following his playing career, Foster broke into the coaching ranks as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee (2012) and Valdosta State University (2011).

Well, New Orleans had no problem running on us this past season. So there's that.....

This one's particularly interesting because the favorite for the position seemingly should have been the guy who (a) was Eberflus' guy in CHI, and (b) was Schotty's guy in SEA.

Conclusion: If Chad Morton can't even get an interview, either he's so good that Ben Johnson's keeping him with the Bears, or he's so bad that his old coaches don't want any part of him anymore.
