Bye-bye, Baker
The Cowboys had to cut somebody after signing rookies Anthony Spencer and James Marten, and the Turk visited QB Matt Baker.
Baker being cut is a mild surprise. The Cowboys kept him instead of Drew Henson last season, and he was the only third-string option with any NFL experience. He got a $17,000 signing bonus when he signed a two-year extension in May.
The Cowboys are really intrigued with the potential of Richard Bartel, a strong-armed Grapevine product who left SMU to pitch in the Cincinnati Reds' minor league system. He played at Tarleton State after giving up baseball.
Perhaps Jerry felt he had to keep up the tradition of having at least one failed minor leaguer in the QB mix. Bartel is competing with fellow undrafted rookie Matt Moore for the third-string gig.
