Cowboys | Likely to find RB in the draft
Mon, 22 Feb 2010 16:59:50 -0800
Gerry Fraley, of The Dallas Morning News, speculates the Dallas Cowboys are likely to find an appealing running back in the 2010 NFL Draft. Owner and general manager said late in the 2009 season that the team must "keep piling them up" in the backfield because of the short career span some running backs have.

McCluster in the 2nd. Uh oh.

If you could land McCluster and Shipley/Jacoby Ford than you would put this offense over the top with the amount of big play threats you would have.

stupid speculation unless we trade one of ours. Not likely.

That was my thought as well. We would have to trade Choice or Barber...but I guess if they wanted him to be mostly a return guy they could also try him as a WR to justify him on an active roster. Who knows what happens. I just don't see the idea of someone from the staff leaking info out on a potential first or in this case second round player that they covet.

That'd be amazing. McCluster would give this offense a huge advantage

again if we target McCluster we wont target ford/shipley or vice versa, or any other receiver for that matter.

I dont think that is true.

McCluster isn't a return guy and Shipley/Ford/ or anyone like them brings that extra boost to our special teams that we need.

If we get McCluster and shipley/ford than our offense then will have 4 explosive players at our disposal at all times.

Austin, Felix, McCluster, Shipley/Ford.

I think it would make us just that much more dynamic.

guys, no one is going to take Barber since they would then have to take that big contract as well. Not going to happen. I hope we are not stupid enough to let go of Choice.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Unless we plan on not carrying a fullback and four halfbacks, that is pretty much spot on.

If so, that new back will need to be a good specialist, for third downs and special teams especially.

You can find a RB in any draft, they are disposable these days. Speculation was Tate from Auburn in the middle. MB3 certainly looked replaceable last year.

Maybe they will just use Phillips as the FB more.

Still seems a stretch of having four RBs on the roster though.

Who knows.

those guys you mentioned are going in the top 3 maybe 4 rounds. Its a waste of draft picks waste 2 on mccluster and shipley/ford, especially valuable ones in the early to middle rounds. If there targeting a prospect with a 6th or 7th then ok, but 2 explosive players that early is to much.

I disagree because this team doesn't have many holes and points and field position mean more to me than the backup Nose Tackle.

The more weapons at Romo and Jason disposal the better.

If we get a safety and Offensive tackle in 2 of the 1st 4 round then I would have no problem with getting more explosion.

Especially if we sign Rolle in free agency.

We have plenty of guys who can get the tough yards but we need more guys who can explode. Especially since we play on a fast surface @ home.

we have many more needs for our first 4 picks then explosion on o. Ol, safety(very unlikely that we target rolle), d-line, especially if spears leave, then wr/rb. Like I side those names you mentioned will be gone in the top 4 and those picks in the top 4 for us need to be used on something different.

While I agree with that I still think we should do more to supe up the offense and try and get more points on the board and better starting field position.

Im ready to put this offense over the top and build on our strengths instead of trying to get better at backup nose tackle.

The 1st round we can use on a OT or Safety.

Im not set on taking McCluster in Rd 2 or anything but im not against it either.

If you get McCluster and another burner it puts us over the top and we then have an explosive offense with a very good pass defense.

Im really just brainstorming out loud right now but I'd like to add more explosion to this offense and get a couple more weapons that can make big plays on limited opportunities.

The more I read up on and see of Golden Tate, the more I want him to be a Cowboy... This guy just seems to me like hes going to be a great pro. I know we have some depth at WR but IMO he could start day one as our slot guy.

I realize thats Craytons spot and hes been a very solid player but if we could have Tate, Austin, Williams, Felix, and Witten, we would be unstoppable....

Im usually against this mentality but with the team we have im all for it.

Build on some of the strengths and get as many offensive playmakers as possible.

If we could add 2 more home run threats to this offense that would make us scary because we could put up points in a hurry and our pass rush is already elite status.
