Any big changes to franchise mode?

As far as I can tell, no.
-Scouting is the same.
-Still no RFA or ERFA contracts. They had that a decade ago iirc.
-Draft still has some gems later on.
-Player progression seems to be the same. Although I've noticed on only one season so far players in the 70's can rack up a lot of EXP points if of course they/the team does well. I control the Dolphins too, and the rookie guard Asiata received over 30k in points due to starting and I guess Ajayi doing well. He's now a 82 overall with some beastly O-line ratings. So even if a player has normal development, but does well, they can see a big jump. Some other guys, like J. Smith is now a 88 overall in 2018 after winning DPOY/NFC LB after starting as a 75 overall.
-Free agency is quite lively. Boatload of RB's and WRs hit the market.
-Cutdown to 53 is week 4 in PS

TBD how the franchise goes once you get 5+ years in. In 17 the draft stopped pumping out good O-Line and corners for me anyways.
Seems corners and receivers still lose a lot of speed once they get close to 30.

Freaking EA, man.

Wasting time with this Longshot nonsense when there are so many ways to improve Franchise Mode, which is their most played mode.

Yup, I've even read that wasn't all that either. I won't bother with it tbh.

I enjoyed 17, first time ever I played Madden into August of the following year. Just glad we can edit players in franchise mode(offline) to edit the draft classes post draft.
The frostbite engine is a decent step, but I read somewhere, so unconfirmed, that it's only graphics and not physics.

Forgot to mention a lot of the commentary is the same. They do randomly update you on scores around the league, especially your divisional opponents. Hear a lot of updates about the Giants in Met Life and the Skins for example.
The tackle noise sounds terrible on a hard hit. Like someone blew into a mic.

Damn, j ordered it too but might as well return it and keep playing 17 at this point.

I will say gameplay offensively has a greater value on following your blockers/right reads for the run game. And for the passing game timing is key. Can only cheat so much with Zekes speed/quickness.

Using a combo of simulation and All madden so far
I've played around 12 franchise games so far, and only 2 have been blowouts. The rest have been anywhere from 3-14 point differentials going into the 4th Quarter. So, it is more challenging for me, compared to 17. Can take advantage of CPU defensive playcalling at times, as they may over commit to stop the run, giving you a great shot at a downfield pass with Dez/Butler going up against a safety by himself. Nothing like sealing a victory against the Skins when they stack the box and I find my rookie WR alone running a go route versus Swearinger trying to keep up.

Defensively, it's a coin flip on if you'll stop the other team. To be determined if it's just broken or the Cowboys defense isn't good enough lol. Usually play one series and sim the next one.

Don't know if we have a thread or if this is going to be our Madden 18 thread. I'm deep into my first season. I'm 9-5, I my boy Chido has 8 Int playing in as 3rd CB, and Irving has 19 sacks. Oh and I play as The Owner cause I like to control everything

Nice Gambit, I always like to know how others' franchises are going by comparison, etc. I've been having trouble getting picks; are you playing man or zone when you get most of your ints? I've had to mostly turn into the CB or S and then hold triangle (user pick) or square to break up the pass. The Zone D seems broken (?) but do get a lot of my sacks using it so seems like a catch 22, etc.

With being at home the past 3 days, I've played quite a bit of franchise games at night.
IMO it's a step back on All Madden at least, barring any future patch.
There was a 776mb update, but I don't think it went towards Franchise.

CPU linebackers are too good in coverage. No matter their coverage rating, or speed, they can press too well and keep up with quick slot receivers, like Bease. Release or route running rating does not matter. They are like a huge Champ Bailey in coverage
I'm convinced ratings don't matter. Or gameplay sliders. As a test, I made Sean Lee a 99 on awareness and Play recognition. Still takes bad reads to ball carrier, and slow to react-when not engaged with a blocker.
Our All Pro offensive linemen make bonehead decisions too many times, such as, avoiding the linebacker right in front of them and instead going for the safety 10 yards down the field. Or just avoiding the defensive end off the edge. IF it was a rooker 74 overall linemen with a poor awareness rating, perfect I could get it. Zack Martin though?
CPU defensive players, even with the min speed threshold down to 35, can run down much faster human controlled players, even with your player being not fatigued. Cornerback with a speed of 84? Yea, he can stay on your receiver with a speed of 93 on a fly route.
Flip the scenario, the CPU receivers can easily gain separation on Anthony Brown(95 speed).
Receivers still drop the ball way too easily after light contact.
Zone coverage is a train wreck, and in Man 2 man, at times your corner will just stop running for a second, giving the receiver a huge gap.
CPU corners have too high of a tackling boost. Zeke at full speed, and the corner has just fought off the WR-with no momentum, knocks Zeke on his back...

At times, the CPU defense knows the type of play you are calling. For example, every time I call a stretch run play in the Strong H, slot playbook, the defense comes out in a zone look with the corner out on the side you'll run the ball. No matter how good your fullback is, he will avoid the corner, who somehow will knock back Zeke. But if I call a dive, it's man 2 man coverage with the safety in the box.

That being said, a challenge is nice. But there are some very annoying cpu advantages that take the fun out of the game. Not trying to be all negative, as there are some nice upgrades in gameplay/graphics and physics. I do enjoy the games decided in the 4th, instead of in 17 where games where blowouts, but when you can't take advantage of "weaknesses" in the cpu coverages, it does get annoying over time.

I just play online head to head. My offense sucks, but I'm killing it on defense. I get 1-3 user picks a game and haven't given up over 21 in 15 games.

All Madden was never about making the game harder, it just makes you worse.

Want to start a franchise, but I'll probably wait until week 8 for more updates rosters.
