Cowboys may add another defensive coach not named Dom Capers

by Dave Halprin (Grizz)

The Cowboys may be adding another coach to the staff and no, I’m not talking about Dom Capers. I guess the Capers thing is still hanging out there but I haven’t seen any info from Valley Ranch or the local media on it lately. The coach who may be added is in the secondary.
According to a source, the team is considering adding another assistant to coach the secondary along with Dave Campo. Former Cowboys safety Dennis Thurman, who coached the secondary for the Baltimore Ravens the past four seasons, is considered a possibility.

Was Thurman let go by the Ravens? The last time I saw anything on the subject Ozzie Newsome wasn't going to let him go.

I know we have some real life coaches around here. Is it possible to have too many coaches? Do too many chefs spoil the stew in this case?

I thought that was the coach from Atl that was denied access to?

LOL... that was my first thought too, that Campo was brought back for Roy, and quickly found out that was a full-time job, so they had to bring him some help...

the Commanders of a couple of years ago when they had all these ASSISTANT COACHES ON THEIR STAFF AND MULTIPLE LEVELS OF COORDINATORS AND ASSISTANT HCs.

We bashed them badly for it, recall..?

Now we are heading in much the same direction with all this coach piling on..

hmmmm...

Yes, and it seemed Thurman was the guy we wanted before we wanted Campo to come back.

I do think however that the multiple position coaches is more a Wade thing than a Jerry thing - SD had multiple position coaches at various times -- inside and outside LB, CBs and Safetys, etc.

If Capers isn't added, I expect that Campo will have some higher level defensive oversight responsibilities (don't kill the messenger) so adding another DB coach might make some sense.

I am 100% behind the hiring of Thurman.

It should have already happened.

Maybe they'll break down responsibilities:

Campo coaching safeties? (Roy Williams)

Thurman coaching the cornerbacks?

I guess the 'Boys are emulating the Mavs in having 300 coaches. It's a good idea considering how successful the Mavs have been over the past two years....oh wait...........

Maybe we can get a snap count coach to help Flo.

Or a shotgun coach to teach Gurode how to snap. Maybe he'll learn at the Pro Bowl?
