Cowboys may cut ties with new RB before he ever plays a snap in favor of rookie Jaydon Blue

Williams was the worst RB in the NFL last year. Cowboys fans: he’s indispensable. It’s like the Zeke saga all over again. Running backs that avg 3.5 yards a carry are the new hotness.

Isn't Blue a better version of Deuce? Why is Deuce still in the conversation?

Let's get serious about this and move the non-hackers.

Oh jeez, where do people get this stuff? I’d say it’s at a minimum 50/50 Williams is the week 1 starter but even if he does end up getting cut it isn’t the plan right now. heck, you could say the Cowboys might cut Blue in favor of Williams. I mean Blue is a 5th round rookie who wasn’t even the top back on his own college team and if they didn’t lose two other RBs to season ending injuries over the Summer he might not even have been drafted.

Schottenheimer has preached competition. The best back is going to start and that’s going to be determined by what happens in the next few months. My guess is if a veteran is cut it’s going to be Sanders. He was horrible the last two years.

Not a great point with regards to a running back getting drafted in the 5th round. Do you not remember that Rico was an undrafted FA who i would say is better than Williams.
Being picked in the 5th round (In a very heavy RB draft) doesn't mean Blue isn't capable of out performing Williams.

Sadly, it was noted that Schotty mentioned all of the RB room today... Blue... Williams... Sanders... Mafah... and then caught himself and said something like... "and we can't forget about"... Hunter Luepke.

Deuce = Forgotten man
Deuce Vaughn had a 4.1 ypc average last year. Much better than Javonte Williams' 3.7 ypc average.

Plus, Deuce is much more quicker, nimble and faster than Javonte, so why is Schottenheimer favoring Javonte over Deuce? Just plain stupidity once again with the Cowboys coaching decision makers.

With an improved power Oline that should be able to open up holes and lanes, this would greatly help Deuce Vaughn truly shine for this offense. Certainly much better than a slower, older and beat up Javonte Williams. It's a no brainer who should be kept, but Schottenheimer is starting to look like the average Joe's around here who simply don't got it "in the cabeza" to make better personnel decisions.

First-year Cowboys' head coach Brian Schottenheimer has emphasized he wants to win in the trenches.

Jerry Jones, the Cowboys' owner and general manager, has invested multiple premier picks into the offensive line to achieve that mission.

But who will tote the ball in front of this supposedly formidable front?

Dallas has five running backs currently signed: Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah, and Deuce Vaughn.

No candidate for the starting job significantly stands out from the rest and it's likely the Cowboys will cut one or two players from the group before the season.

Anything is on the table.

Dallas Cowboys could cut Javonte Williams in favor of rookie Jaydon Blue

Williams, who spent his first four years with the Broncos, signed with the Cowboys in the offseason on a 1-year, $3 million deal.

He suffered an ACL tear in 2022 which forced him to miss the remainder of the season. Once he returned, his yards per carry and overall performance decreased to the point he was sharing the Denver backfield with a variety of unproven runners.

If Williams continues to show signs of decline in training camp, Dallas could choose to cut him before the season begins.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested that outcome in a piece about the best players who can be cut from each team.

"Cutting Williams, who averaged just 3.7 yards per carry with the Broncos last season, would save Dallas $2 million in cap space," Knox wrote.

It would be a small amount of cap space, but could be worth it the Cowboys other rushers are seeing more success.

Rookie running back Jaydon Blue was drafted this year in the fifth round out of the University of Texas. He could be a prime candidate to take the starting job and force this move from the front office.

Blue ran a 4.25 40-yard dash at his pro day. He has the blitzing speed it would take to explode through holes made by a talented offensive line.

The flip side of the coin is that the position is so wide open Williams could take the starting job if he excels. He has the experience to work well with Dak Prescott as a pass protector.

But anything is possible with this Cowboys' backfield.

Mods should change the title. This is speculation and he was the 1st team running back today.

Javonte is faster than Deuce. He's also an accomplished pass blocker. 2nd year removed from horrific knee injury, so if he's going to regain his burst, should be this year.

There's not that much difference in their ages.

That's what Jerry said about Zeke last year. Partly why they didn't go after Henry.
Zeke was the answer

Deuce is gone. Sanders and Williams are still young and have actually done something in th eleague. Deuce has done absolutely nothing in 2 years. Practice squad he goes. Im actually excited about Williams, 2 years removed from injury. He was off to a damn hot start in the league before he got hurt.
