The Cowboys are 4th in passing touchdowns (and Romo missed a game, which counts, but reduces what our overall could have been) and 5th in rushing touchdowns.

They aren't only balanced, but they're potent in both elements of offense.

It's just difficult to stop both elements. I wouldn't even say we have a dominant rushing attack. I wouldn't even say Murray is the best running back in the NFL. I think our offensive line combined with our focus on running the ball has made us the best running team in the NFL (I don't count Seattle since they aren't a traditional running team, having a QB with huge numbers).

We get this defense up a few notches, and this is going to be the team to beat in the NFL for a while.

You wouldn't say we have a dominant rushing attack? Uh, okay.

I think many teams run the ball better than we do, but can not commit to the run either because their offense isn't as efficient as ours or their defense isn't keeping the points off the board.

I'll say it again, but if Adrian Peterson becomes available we would be foolish not to get him. He is much better running back than Murray. Murray doesn't have breakaway speed and as a result he doesn't have much big play ability. His best traits are his cuts and his relentless style. Adrian Peterson has made a career of playing against 8+ in the box in Minnesota with no passing game to keep things balanced. He would be even better on the Cowboys. I bet if you look at Favre's first year in Minnesota, you'll probably see Peterson's best year too.

At 30 years old, he'd better come cheap.

I take it that your definition of "Peterson's best year" also doesn't have anything to do with rushing yards? That was Peterson's worst season in terms of YPC and second-worst in terms of yards per game. He did manage to play in all 16 games, though, so there's that.

Bringing AP in would be based on him taking a hometown discount and acknowledging where he is in his career based on age. I would sign him to a 3 or 4 year modest deal.

Peterson had 18 rushing TDs in 2009, by far his most in a single season.

I think 3 or 4 years is a pretty long deal for a 30-year old RB.

I think the best option might be to trade out of the 1st round and pick up a RB in the 3rd round who can split carries with Randle.

It's not at all a long deal. You think that because there you have infused certain expectations into that.

A 3-4 year deal doesn't mean he is on the team for 3-4 years. Certainly not necessarily.

Adrian Peterson, if signed at a reasonable price, would take our offense to another level, while buying more time for this defense.

Trading down and drafting another running back? That would take resources AWAY from the defense...

I saw two other new threads by you, I knew there would be a third. Good job being consistent.

The more I watch Randle the more I believe he will be nothing more than what he is already. He is a RB2/3 with good speed and decent vision. He does not break tackles, he does not block, and he does not have great hands. If we let Murray walk we better have a plan to bring in a RB1 because I can't see Randle handling the load or taking on more touches than he gets right now.
