I heard them mention possibly a trade with GB, only if Olsen is off the board for them when they pick. They dont want to reach for Lynch, and said the y would rather trade out,get a pick and still get there man

if he slips, I'd have no problem moving up a few spots to get him. If anyone watched a Michigan game this past season, one of the first things you notice is that no one ran the ball on them at all, and I'd say that Branch was probably the main reason. Good nose tackles are hard to find, and Branch has tons of talent. I think we really need to use some of our extra picks to move up and get the guys that we are really targeting, because we have more picks than will be able to crack our roster.

There are NTs in the later rounds. I just don't know about taking Branch with our first. Not saying he's not a good pick at 22. I doubt he'll be there at 22. Just saying I'd rather fill our biggest needs at 22 than NT.

We could stay where we are or maybe even trrade back a few spots and get Justin Harrell (DT from Tennessee). He will probably be better than Branch - he has a better motor and is very athletic.

Someone else said something about moving up for branch but I can not remember where I read or heard it. They probably heard the same thing your friend did.

However...if that happened I may have to get a group together and storm VR and beat Jerry and crew.:laugh2:

Swing through Memphis and pick me up :laugh2:

I can probably meet you half way. Branch is okay, and if we take him at 22 I will be fine with it. Trading up to do it while his stock is falling would piss me off.

Yes that is my thought process...if he is there at 22 I would not care for it but would not pitch a fit.

The only way I could see trading up is if we only gave up a 6th or 7th round pick and even then I would not be happy but maybe just send Jerry a nasty gram instead of driving down.

What if we only gave up a 3rd or 4th to do it??

Like going up to the 15-19 spot should he drop that far?

I was listening to sirius this morning, the show with randy cross and bob poppa the giants play by play guy.

Poppa said that He had talked to about 10 nfl executives this week and that as a consesus they believe this draft is weak. He said all the people he talked to told him that they only really had a first round grade of about 15 players and that when you get to the middle of the first round and the bottom of it, you are no longer getting first round talent. He went on to say how it will be difficult for teams to trade down because everyone past about 15 are going to want to do that.

Interesting.

Piggy back when goose told norm last week that it is a bad draft for Qb, te and rb and that you can get good corners all the way into the 5th round this year, well it will be very difficult to move down and seemingly from this easy to move up if there is something you want.

In Wade's scheme they want a big boy(325)at NT. According to Mickey they only think one player in the first round is a true NT and that is Branch. Harrell is considered to be a 4-3 DT.

This is a fallacy.

He's had smaller nose tackles before.

They will slant much more than Ferguson ever has.

I've been a draftnik for a long time and it seems i hear this just about every year. Not being a GM/scout i have no idea if they are being honest or just driving down the prices? It always seem like the pundits say how strong the draft is in the fall, then by April it's weak. I think these teams get wary of paying a guy like Spears or Carp 10-12 million in the 20's when they can pay a guy a fraction of that in the 50's and probably get similar talent.

They may want a big fatty because Fergie is planning to play at 305 next year. He played at 315 last year and he's looking to go smaller.

I am glad to hear you say that. I kind of thought that too, it seems it would be a good thing to do. And isnt this week the classic week where players start diving and teams start bluffing?

In the last two drafts on draft day we have had a julius jones trade talked about all morning before our pick, and in 05 there was a huge uproar when the ticket started reporting on friday night that we were sending the 20th pick to tampa for simeon rice.

So I imagine it is just that time. I take your word for it, because you know a hell of alot more about the draft and its history than I do or ever will.

From what I have been reading there could be two big draft day trades, the briggs to washington deal and then michael turner it seems is headed to buffalo or tenessee, I think buffalo maybe leading in that deal though....

I think the thing is that when looking for a player high in the draft they want a "big boy", and of course the 3 technique type guys aren't going to be what they are looking for either. Later in the draft they might have to get a little bit lighter guy since there may not be any better options in the heavier types.

Also Fergy, although not a 325 guy, he does have a pretty big frame. (Him and Spears both)

Ideally, everyone running a 3-4 would like that.

I am sure they told Mickey Spagnola that they would like Calvin Johnson a lot also.

That doesn't make it likely.

I think the point that flew over your head was that althetic 300 pound guys like Okoye and Harrell, although they are really good players; they just aren't what the Cowboys are looking for in a NT.
