Cowboys must knock out 'Skins early

No need in beating around the bush. The Cowboys must jump on the Commanders early, both offensively and defensively, and place doubts in their minds early. One thing about Wade and Jason, they will attack, unlike the previous coaching regime, who played "not to lose the game"! The 'Boys cannot let Jason Campbell get in an early rhythm, because this kid can throw the ball when he has time!

Cambell is not the threat; Portis is, and this year's defense can stop him. Without Thrash who will Campbell throw to? Cooley? Sure, but he'll be dounble-covered. Actually I hope they throw Cooley's way with Hanlin back there for the picks.

I do agree that Dallas needs to jump on Washington early, and put the game away early, but not because there is danger in letting them hang around. That's because even if they do hang around, Dallas will still eventually pounce on them and put them away.

The real reason Dallas must jump on Washington sommer rather than later is because they'll have to play 4 days later on Thnaksgiving. So making the Skins game a work-day would not be as adventageous as putting twem away early and making it a holiday. You know, reast all starters in the second half, early.

Basically, this is a preseason game. The opponent is not worthy of being identified by anything more.

As I was jogging, I tried to come up with a gameplan for the Commanders to beat us. It's quite possible....but really only if we beat ourselves.

Gameplan....

Win the opening coin toss. Hope Cartwright returns the ball for a TD. Our coverage teams stink. This would give the Skins some momentum...and they'll need it.

On defense:
Drop and play coverage. Hope that Romo gets itchy in the pocket and tries to force the ball downfield. Rush four every time. The Cowboys really haven't shown that they can run the ball early in games. Make sure to keep everyone in front and tackle well.

On offense:
Start by throwing the ball to Cooley. I would make all my assistant coaches watch the Giants' game. Shockey tore up the Cowboys for 12 catches. Cooley is no Shockey, but he is very good...and has had good games versus the Cowboys in the past. Line Cooley up all over the place, like we do with Owens. The short three to five step drops will nullify the Cowboys rush.

When the Cowboys are on their heels, then begin to shove Portis, Betts, and Sellers down their throats. The Cowboys defense is ok against the rush...but the Washington running game has been pretty good lately despite their lack of a passing game.

Of course we'll be very wary of Cartwright, so I'm sure we'll be ready for him.

The Cowboys will, of course, know that Cooley is Washington's only weapon in the passing game. We'll be ready for him.

This is a game that really seems like a mismatch in every way. I can't think of one position that Washington is just head and shoulders above us. We match up favorably with them.

But in the NFL, anything can happen.

I say we steal their lunches, pop the bag in their face, crush their chips, stomp a mud hole in them and walk it dry!

That's my game plan.

:skins:
(this should be a mandatory smilie in all posts this week) :D

You forget we are playing a Div 1AA team on US Thanksgiving in the Jets. We can beat them without breaking a sweat.

I disagree.

While I'd like to see us come out strong early, in the middle and late -- never taking our foot off their collective throats -- I don't know if that's the way it's going to go down.

The Skins have shown a penchant for playing well early and collapsing late. We, however, have been a second-half team all year.

So I won't be worrying too much if we happen to fall behind early. Gibbs will go into his shell if that happens, and Tony will work his 3rd quarter magic.

3 straight games with opening drive TD's. We have come out lately throwing short and working the ball around just working on 1st downs. We will continue that this week I think. It has been a good way for Romo to start the game and has gotten him settled in early unlike early in the season.

Don't overlook the Commanders, or assume anything.

They will show up and play their hearts out to possibly ruin the Cowboys fun.

Remember we have done it to them, and they will be looking to do it to us.

I know on paper this looks like an easy game, but rival games are never easy.

Trust me, the Skins will show up and give us their best. They would love nothing more than to shock the NFL by upsetting the Cowboys.

They don't have the o-line for it

I think that he's wanting us to blow them out early so that we can give our starters a rest, prevent injury, and allow them to be relatively fresh for Thursday's game....

I would like a blow out but I don't expect that will be the case.

I agree, the Commanders have a way of making a game ugly. I wouldn't be surprised if we dominated the game but the score ended up 21-13

I think Gibbs will try to keep this a low scoring game. Expect a lot of running and the dink and dunk passes by Campbell. Only way this turns into a blowout is if Dallas can create some turnovers early in the game then we have a chance to force them out of their ball control offense.

I would love to see a major beatdown on skins and our defense step it up and shut them out. :D

Yap, that "giblet" is a tricky coach......The one thing about Portis is that he will cough the ball up. Moss is not healthy, and El is not a threat. IMO, I think we can confuse Campbell into making some mistakes and due to his apparent lack of mobility, we could probably get him to fumble the ball as well..

The key will be the running game with Portis and Betts. Washington ranks high in rushing offense yet ranks towards the bottom in passing. You figure the skins will try to play to their strengh which is Portis and Betts. If Campbell is forced to carry the load then I think he will be in for a long day.
