Cowboys name a leadership council

Even Landry, who ran the team like they were all GIs, had team leaders to handle things in the locker room and the huddle.
Did he have an appointed leadership council? I don’t think so. I think the very idea of it is weaksauce. I know it’s probably practiced throughout the league but IMO I feel it’s weak minded thinking to create a leadership council on a team. If players naturally step up and are leaders then I’m all for that. Distinguishing some players as leaders is dumb IMO. It may be the “get off my lawn” part of me but I have issues with this age group (18-30) needing all this validation and reassurance to do their jobs. Making a special council to give them more labels is weak. Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Woodson. Haley, Aikman, they just stepped up and were the alphas. No questions asked. Now we have a special “leadership council” and announce it. IMO if all the guys on the leadership council are alpha males and are true leaders then they don’t need distinguished label. But that’s totally my opinion of it.

I slept on it and I'm coming around to the benefits of this committee.

I mean, those paintball outings aren't going to plan themselves. This frees up BS to focus on nifty gimmicks for practice.

So...the defensive line and offensive skill players form the leadership council...

That's also where most of the cap money went.

Five of the top seven salaries this season belong to Prescott, Williams, Lamb, Clark, and Ferguson.

Just an observation.

Anyway, what does a leadership council do? And why do they need a leadership council?

Real leaders aren't appointed. Real leaders aren't chosen or even elected.

Real leaders are followed, not through authority, but necessity. That's because, wherever you are trying to go, that leader is in front of you. He is the only one that isn't looking at the back of someone else's head.
