Cowboys need a tough running RB

the point is Zeke is way to slow. on those short yardage situations, you have to be bang bang. everybody bunched up and the holes small and the RB has to get to the hole, bang bang and get through and get some tough yards. Zeke was good at leaning forward and getting yards, but he started to struggle really bad towards the end just to get to the LOS even on a regular play. holes came and went and he was still dancing behind the line.

its not necessarily about being a big back to push the pile. its about getting there right at the snap and get through a small crease and gaining a yard or two.

Dowdle is about 215, with more speed.

Luepke is about 235.

no need to panic for Zeke or something lesser.
Deuce is going to prove he can gain 1st downs on those short 2nd, 3rd or 4th & 1s.. Just wait and see. He has already started.

Well said. 100% agree. Pretty sure most of us feel the same way. I created this thread simply just to prop up Deuce, but overall, want to see him keep showing up as he is most likely going to be given more reps with the 1s and 2s. The opposing opponents do get tougher as one faces their 1s and 2s, opposed to their 3s, but it also means Deuce should have better blocking around to help him keep showing up.

For instance, on this play, had Simi made any kind of effort to block or slow down his opposing defender, Deuce would have ran 46 yards for a TD after he himself had just made 3 defenders miss from tackling him.

Maybe with starting WRs, that downfield block on the last DB gets made and allows Deuce to break it 46 yards for a TD.

Same thing with the QB. 3rd string QB, Will Grier, threw behind a wide open Deuce. Had he thrown the football accurately, that's an easy pitch and catch for a TD. Go to the 8:00 minute mark in the video below...

The talent is there. Just like it's normal to have some caution concerning Deuce and wonder if he would be able to perform as good against 1st and 2nd stringers, compared to 3rds, I feel Deuce would be able to produce as well since he would have better blockers around him, along with a better and more accurate QB.

Time will tell, but it sure feels good to see Deuce tearing it up regardless of the competition.

Thanks SO much for posting that video of Deuce AC....I missed the game and that was damn impressive IMO. I don't care if it's 4th stringers he ran against....he looked great. Darren Sproles Jr. ?

He didn't look that small on the field. For his height he's got plenty of mass.

Also, I've heard 5'5 and I've heard 5'6. He's probably somewhere in between. And if he's close to 180.... That's a ton of mass and muscle. Add to that, his agility...

If he was 5'7 he'd be 185/190
5'8/200
5'9 /205
When I was in better shape I was heavy into height vs weight vs body fat %
He’s not little he’s short

Sproles did that against 1's. So....cheer him (2) on but have your foot just above the brake.

You should care if it's 4 or 1..

And yes...2 looked AWESOME. So did troy hambrick and lance dunbar and joseph randle

I don't think duece belongs in that category. ...yet, he deserves his chance too just like them

Please stop telling people how to think.

You do you, and let others do themselves.

For the record, so far, Deuce is starting to prove you wrong. He's done it his whole life, and he's most likely to keep proving his doubters wrong once again.
Agree 1000%. People probably said the same stuff when he started at K State. He proved evey dang one of them wrong. Whos to say he wont do it again in ther NFL.
We hear , " oh the players are bigger and better. Dont forget , hes playing alongside team mates that are bigger and better too!!

Pollard's never been a high volume guy. And the way he gets dinged up, you don't want to use him as a high volume guy.

If Brian Schottenheimer really wants to rush on 50% of our plays, we really need a good RB2 to take about 100 carries off Pollard. RBs have never been cheaper to find, in terms of FA deals and draft capital, so why we didn't add anyone beside Deuce is mystifying.
He's only had one " ding" and that was in Niners game with a tackler rolling up his weight down over Pollard's ankle ..

Ummm, no!
Pollard is a great short yardage back. The dude always seems to get more yards than appear to be there, and he is very seldom stopped in the backfield. You don’t have to be a wide bodied plodder for the tough yards. The threat Pollard poses makes it easier on everyone. The ends and LBs can’t pinch down with no fear like they did the past few years with Zeke.

I'm concerned about his size and ability to take punishment from 300lb lineman. But he has elite vision and natural shiftiness, traits you can't teach. And it will be easy for defensive players to lose track of Vaughn behind big lineman like Zack and the Smiths.

Really want to see this kid with the starters vs starters. More importantly want to see how these coaches continue to use him. He's not Zeke and just needs to be given a chance to find some open space and if he can do that consistently and stay healthy he's gonna be a big hit.

Imagine playing RB in the NFL at 5’5”. Deuce is very tough.
Heart won’t stop a bone from cracking or a tendon from tearing. A 3 back philosophy would probably work best for Pollard and Vaughan. They both rely on burst and explosiveness. Let a 3rd back take some punishment.

If he makes the team…

He can’t block. So that means Dak will get hit more.

That means he can’t be relied on to stop any A or B gap blitzes.

Liability in the extreme.

I think the practice squad is his best bet.

RJones will be back week 3.
