Cowboys Needs for Next Year

We will want an impact player with our first pick, and based on our needs that would be OLB, OT and possibly WR.

WR looks to be weak in next years draft, and with Adams back, unless Tucker and Petitti just bomb, I don't see us spending a first on OT.

Leaving LB, but unless a Hawk or Greenway type falls to us, I would not be surprised if we trade out of the first to build some depth.

By trading out we can use the 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks to get the type of depth we are looking for.

Grab a RT that can swing to guard, a safety, a LB, a NT, a WR or CB.

You know, I would like to see what Parcells and Sparano can do with Colombo.

The CENTER position just might be the greatest need area for the Cowboys. However, I do not think there is a strong draft class for centers.

That said, I do think that the Cowbosy need to make a strong attempt for LeCharles Bentley.

I think the first pick will be LT if Columbo does not pan out...if he does...OT will not get drafted on first day.

If Columbo does not I expect to draft LT and move Flo to RT with Pettiti...keeping Tucker at LT to back up rook.

That makes a lot of sense. I could definitely see that happening.

I don't think it has anything to do with Columbo... none.

I has everything to do with Petitti and Tucker at this point. If they can perform adequately and Flo is making progress on his knee I doubt you'll see a first round pick spent on a OT.

I don't see the Flo move to RT. He is a better pass protector than run blocker. He is built like a LT IMO.

I think long-term we'll have more of an issue at guard quite frankly.

Yeah, wide receiver scares the hell out of me. As does FS.

ILB doesn't scare me nearly as much.

But if Bledsoe goes down, QB could be the biggest Achilles heal we have at the moment.

That's why we need to go after Vince Young next year, if he comes out. A year or two of seasoning behind Bledsoe would be a perfect fit.

I'd rather trade down and perhaps, pick up an extra first in 07. I would also rather have Quinn. I'd take him over any QB in college right now.

I am not impressed with Quinn's arm strength...I am in favor of developing what we have there (QB)...

Finish the D with a TRUE FS another LBer...Pepper & Ratliff are developing on the Dline...

A Rookie WR to stretch the field is a must IMHO with 2 older WR's and a rather average speed guy in Crayton...

How do you define built like?

I look at Walter Jones, who IMO is the best LT in the game, and see a 6'6/315 lb guy that is quick and excells in pass protection. Flo at 6'7/340 would be a beast at RT....so is Pettiti for that matter after a full off-season. I think a lighter more agile LT in today's game would be better to handle speed rushers. Flo can handle any DE from the right side, but is average at best against speed guys on the left side...JMO.

Tall with a long wingspan. For as big as Flo is, he almost looks slender out there. Not a bulky road grader type.

I do see where you are coming from though.

Flo's best asset as a LT is his reach. He may not have the best technique but if he get's his hands on the chest of a speed rusher he has a good chance to control him.

Rogers could have been an excellent LT with his very good technique and quickness. Too bad he'd rather wear a Cinderella outfit instead of a Cowboys uniform....

It all depends on how BP views it...if Tucker finishes out the year strong. I would be fine with what we have. I was not high on Tucker at all, infact very scared. I hope he continues to prove me wrong...

I too would be in favor of this, if we are certain we have a starting quality QB on the roster. If not, I think you gotta get one.

You and me both. Actually, I was very high on him as a RT prospect until preseason this year.

Further proof that I don't know what I am talking about since I thought Tucker looked like a classic RT and now BP says he is much better suited to the left side.

I hope he develops into something serviceable, but he needs to do it for a consistent stretch before I am totally sold on the guy.

Guard is the position that concerns me. Allen/Rivera are both old and expensive. The depth behind them doesn't excite me too terribly much.

Max Jean-Gilles may be a good pick late 1st/early 2nd. He's a huge guard who can play tackle.

I'm gonna guess and say we're picking somewhere in the 20's. Having said that, here are a few guys I'm interested in that could be there:

Michael Huff (S)
Joe Thomas (T)
Chad Jackson (WR)
Johnathan Scott (T)
LaRon Landry (S)
Thomas Howard (LB)

Barring a collapse, we won't be picking high enough to get names like Hawk, Santonio Holmes, Ahmad Brooks...

I agree...we gotta get some promising young guards in here. I really have no idea of how Peterman would do in a starting roll. I think LA will be back next year, but if we had a young stud waiting in the wings or incase he got hurt I'd feel so much better.
