ABOUT TURD WATCH

Turd Watch is a device for tracking and publicizing player arrests and convictions. Though some might find the name to be unpleasant, NFL scouts, coaches, players, and agents commonly use the term "turd" in reference to guys who are, well, turds.

To the right of the page, you will see a link for Archived Page. That will take you to the count for all of last year. You might just be surprised.....no, SHOCKED........at what you see!

The Cowboys have taken great steps with Calvin Hill to change the climate at Valley Ranch

I'm not surprised. JJ has went to great lengths to get (and create) quality, high character guys and this NFL version of a police blotter just proves that he's been successful. It's funny that the perception from most of the Cowboys' haters is that Valley Ranch is a halfway house when in reality they're basically a team full of "choir boys" (kinda ;) )!
I find it funny that Philly's players are taking on the mentality of their fans! Maybe the jail @ the Linc will begin to house players also so they can start some type of work-release program to keep them on the field!!

Wonder how many football fans would be shocked if they could see these stats. You better bet that many of them would be even more shocked to see that the Cowboys had no arrests or any other problem (along with the blasted Skins). Even my brother, a Skins fan, teases me about guys like TO & Pacman. Think I'll make a copy of above so I'll have it handy whenever needed. Would make interesting topic of conversation when fans of other teams come on this board to cause trouble.

BTW: Can somebody tell me what the Bengals were thinking when they drafted that one guy? They never learn. Maybe I'll go back and see who Titans drafted. Understand from someone that they also drafted a player with problems.

What is the criteria for this list? The archived list on the right of the page in the link shows one team with 77 incidents. That can't be arrests.

Cincy with fewer than Philly?

Seems pretty random.

OFFICIAL RULES

Everyone in the organization is eligible. Players, coaches, owners, front-office employees, etc. If the person works for the team and is arrested, the points will be assigned. The term “players” includes players on the roster, the practice squad, and any of the various “reserve” lists (with the exception of “reserve-retired”). The scoring system is simple. Seven points for a felony arrest, and seven for a conviction. Three points for a misdemeanor arrest, and three more for a conviction. If there are multiple charges, the points will stack.
For the purposes of the Turd Watch II scoring, a conviction includes a guilty plea, a plea of no contest, and the entry into a diversion program.
However, if the team cuts the player (or fires the employee) within seven days after an arrest, the points will be removed.

Those numbers seem unreal to me. 77 arrests for Miami players? 64 for Jacksonville? Where have those headlines been?

It shouldn't be a shock to anyone who knows what they are talking about.

I always find the "Crackboys" comments amusing from other team's fans. We may have been that way in the 1990s, but no longer.

It just goes to show you many fans just don't do their research.

See above.

Why would they count that towards Chicago?

So this tracks incidents by team and scores it to help quantify behavioral performance. Interesting to look at but in the end it really does not mean much -- does it. I mean, all it takes is one key player to screw up and get suspended to really effect a team. And not all infractions are the same...

I would be concerned if we were at the league average or higher. Why are teams like Miami, Jacksonville, and Minnesota so high in 2007 (I understand Atlanta)? And if they correct this does that translate into better performance (wins)? And the 2008 numbers, is that from the end of this past season?

Because the incedent took place while he was with Chicago.

Not the suspension/diversion.
If I'm not mistaken, all points go against the team where the originating violation occurred...
