Why were the Cowboys 'flat' ?

Why do good teams come out 'flat' for some games?

The Packers looked like they were trying to reenact the Cowboys performance.

They had the excuse of backup QB but they had similar problems with dropped balls, etc.

The Packers special teams were a disaster.

Jimmy once had some comments about how it's harder to coach after big wins than after big losses.
- Players can lose focus during winning streaks.
- Players have less fear of getting benched during win streaks.
- After blowout losses, players have expectations that somebody might get benched.

Mike Irvin commented that Jimmy was much more of a hardarse after big wins than after losses.
- Jimmy would nitpick mistakes in film sessions after big wins.
- After losses, Jimmy might not say anything during film sessions.

I think it's obvious.

They've been reading the headlines too much and the coaches have also allowed them to get full of themselves. They thought all they had to do was show up and they would win. That's not the case in the NFL and the coaches have to do a better job of keeping them grounded.

Do you trust McCarthy to be like Jimmy? I don't.

As was Bill Parcells. It's a tactic used by 'good' coaches in Sport. I've seen terrible performances by sporting teams and the coach seems uninterested. I've seen great performances and the head coach is fuming. Always like to see this

We let out a huge turd. And other teams did also. They ate too much cheeses, and it showed.

MM now must administer the corrective action to get them focused, and stop reading / listening to the pundits.

I hope this week goes by fast to get to game time.

yup

Cowboys
packers
Rams
raiders
bengals
eagles

Bucs/WFT off week

and the ravens needed miracle at home to beat the team Rush beat the week before. What happened to their defense talk about bad run defense LMAO did the vikes go off on us like that?

all lost as well.. we lost no grounds really..we could have gained ground but the payoff picture is still exactly how it was going into the game..

a loss is loss..

lets let it go, 24 hr rule....

Jimmy to to like it, that even in a big win or a blow out win. That there was enough screw ups for him to use. And point that out as a focal point that they need to get better.

My view of the Rams went down this week -- Stafford reverts to being Detroit Stafford too often.

Cardinals had a nice bounce back, for but for reasons it doesn't feel like they are built for playoff football. They really need homefield IMHO.

I actually came away <more> impressed with the Packers watching the Chiefs game. They have a top 5 defense and they are physical. With Rodgers back they have a good passing game, good running game, and good defense.

There were multiple really top teams that played out of character. The only difference is I could care less about them.

Don't forget the Bills and their 9-6 loss to Jacksonville.. Yes THAT Jacksonville. The time change clearly screwed with some teams more than others for whatever reason. They can't dwell on it.. They all know why they lost.. they played like crap, weren't sharp and lacked energy across the board. McCarthy needs to do whatever it takes to make sure they have their energy back next Sunday and going forward.

Several "good teams" had bad performances yesterday, Cowboys, Bills, Saints, Rams, etc. It's hard to win in this league, any team can lose on a given sunday. The Cowboy team has had it's issues the last few weeks, but found ways to win, coming off a bad loss, perhaps gets them more focused to clean up some areas.

thanks for sharing ... although why are we bringing up the Packers who were forced to play with QB Love ... instead of playing with reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers ?
That's a top of the sky high rise Tower vs the concrete ground difference.

As i tried to predict the Cowboys Win/Loss record, i had wondered if we would encounter that " Trap" game. The one that we have no business losing ... to this kind of competition.
Apparently ..and hopefully. this Bronco blowout loss is the only flat- trap loss game on the remaining schedule.

I hope you're right.. but the fact of the matter is I fully expect this team to lay an egg in at least one of those road division games. It happens almost every year.. You could feel the lack of energy from the team from the first snap yesterday.. There was something wrong right out of the gate.. which almost doesn't make sense after the big return by Pollard.. but the first series was VERY slow moving and lethargic and I immediately got that sinking feeling watching it.. Especially after watching Dak miss some very simple throws.. I hoped the defense would keep us in it until the offense woke up.. but when they started getting gashed it was pretty much a wrap.

I agree with you on GB defense.

The one team we need to finish ahead of for sure. I dont want to be playing there in late January.

the way i see it ... that's the other teams' problems, we have to try to defend our own territory,.as best we can.

but some of the same problems that we already were having.. rose it's ugly head. Such as the questionable run defense.
maybe the way we managed to shut down Davin Cook got us overconfidence again

... and i thought on both sides of the ball ..both sides of the lines - We Just were Out-Physical !!

some signs have already been there that has risen it's ugly head before , but at the end we end up managing to overcome it

- Run defense is one
- Diggs or Brown or secondary giving up big plays downfield is another. ..It's a Cinderella effect. One moment its the ugly shoes and dress, ..the next it's the beautiful Swan with the pretty dress and shoes.

- i really like Diggs, but his game is just not complete at this time, he still has to learn and grow as a pure coverage guy. He's very capable of creating INTs turnovers but he is also vulnernable to
deep passes, and teams will continue to try him deep ..until he proves he can prevent it.
They are not scare of him.

- Dak is the one that surprised me the most. He was off a whole month during preseason (per shoulder), .but came in vs Bucs and played lights out .
He was off per bye week, and missed Vikes game, but it seemed like it was his first OTA of the season. i don't expect another str8 game vs ATL.

Very troubling loss on both sides of the football against average competition. Is this just a bad game or are there bigger issues? Got to fix the Offense first and find a better solution then Steele if Tyron continues to be out. Stopping the run is more about playing gap control and strong tackling. This is fixable, but it's has to be a team defense thing, not playing hero ball.

100% accurate.
Even at the high school level.
A good head coach can't just be an Xs and Os guy. He has to be a psychologist too. That's why guys like Jimmy and Tuna were such good coaches, while seemingly brilliant coordinators struggle as head coaches.
