10:17:01 am Dallas coach Wade Phillips told the media he was worried about his team and the potential for "sloppy" tackling. His fears were realized when several of the Raiders big plays were a result missed tackles.

Couple of items that the Cowboys will most likely work on a little harder this week after the Oakland game. The RB's really struggled in their pass protection and the LB's need to play with their hands better getting off blocks. In the Oakland contest, there were some positive feelings of the overall job that the first offense and defense did. Where the Cowboys appeared to struggle the most was with their young players at linebacker and in the secondary.

Hey, TIm. Great job on the live blogging! Do you think Wade will be tougher on the team in today's practice given the sloppiness of the backups against Oakland?

9:08 Tim MacMahon: Doesn't look like it. This is a routine walkthrough -- no pads, less than half speed.

What do you zoners think about that, walkthrough, no hitting etc?

Did you notice any change in Wade's interaction with the players during the game since he now has the coordinator role? Was he looking at film with them in breaks? Or who handles that role now?

9:12 Tim MacMahon: To be honest, I didn't watch Wade on the sideline much. I did see one time where he went back and talked to the secondary as a group. Don't think that's something we've seen much from him over the last two years.

Was the sloppy play more bad execution or lack of talent...in your opinion?

9:15 Tim MacMahon: Some of both, but with guys like Courtney Brown and Mike Mickens, it's probably more of a talent issue. They'll be more patient with Mickens, because he's a rookie. It looks like Brown's time with the Cowboys is close to the end.

Is Tnew practicing ?

9:20 Tim MacMahon: No Newman, no Jenkins.
Rookie OLB Brandon Williams, who sat out the game with a sore shoulder, is practicing.

Do you think Stanback's time with the Cowboys is about over?

9:36 Tim MacMahon: Wouldn't be so sure about that. He did get on the field before Kevin Ogletree against the Raiders.
Stanback also had a few good practices after returning from his sore hammy. He'll have to earn his roster spot, but he definitely has a legit shot.

Hey Tim, I'm thinking about heading down there today to see the afternoon practice... any idea on what will be happening?

9:41 Tim MacMahon: It'll be another walkthrough. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time. They've got two real practices tomorrow

Is Wade going to have a helmets only soft practice or our we going to see a much tougher Wade make the practice full gear after a poor performance against Oakland?

9:53 Tim MacMahon: It's a helmets-only soft practice. We'll see if they do any conditioning work at the end, but it's just a boring walkthrough at this point.

When are the first cuts? Will there be a big name cut like they usually do?

9:59 Tim MacMahon: Sept. 1. Don't see any shockers coming.
Of course, if I saw a shocker coming, it wouldn't really be a shocker.

I am starting to believe more and more that Ryan Gibbons will make this team at the expense of Cory Procter or Montrae Holland. With Gibbons playing for the minimum, that'd save the Cowboys about $1.2 million (Procter) or $1.6 million (Holland).

Well, there we go... It won't be Holland because Jerry was just pumping him up at halftime the other day.

JMO, but that isn't going to help.

BTW between the bold and underlined this was difficult to read.

If you don't tackle in practice, why would you be a good tackler in games

thats what i was thinking, how can you be a good tackler in games if you dont tackle in practice

thats like reports coming out that our linebackers wont go through to make the tackles, they would rather go around the play, well to me that isnt teaching the player right; your teaching the player to go around by not having him hit in practice.

then add onto that, wade said, we didnt sustain any injuries due to not hitting hard enough. Well, duh, coach cupcake wade, when you dont hit in practice, your going to play sloppy football, and how can you expect a linebacker to go through a offensive tackle or go up into the hole when you dont force it in practice.

It would seem like to me, if you dont practice that in camp hitting and going into the hole to tackle, then your teaching players to go around players, and when they do that they leave a big gap for a running play or like when spencer went around and then dove at the raiders qbs legs, that wasnt teaching him how to tackle right there coach cupcake wade, thats why you dont go far in the playoffs wade phillips, you dont empahsize tackling, and how do you know if a player will make that play or not if you dont practice it in camp.

I don't know why this is so confusing to our great coach.

This team has been sloppy and soft since he took over and he seems oblivious as to why.

We were sloppy and folded down the stretch when Parcells was coach too.
