3:20 pm "He's a big guy, he's a dominant player. he can be dominant whenever he wants to be. He'll be a challenge. tHE thing is, we play against big guys, so I don't really see him being just so much better than the guys that we played against." - Cowboys OG Leonard Davis on Commanders DT Albert Haynesworth.

3:16 pm Cowboys K Nick Folk missed a 38-yard field goal on the opening drive against the Packers. It was Folk's four miss of the season. Holder Mat McBriar took blame for the miss. Folk came to his holder's defense. "It’s not all on that. I should have put it through. It was a big kick. You know?"

3:08 pm "You don’t want to be one-dimensional in anything you do. You want to be able to move the quarterback, you want to be able to run the ball, play-action, drop back. The more you can do, the harder it is on the defense." - Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett on the lack of a running game against the Packers.

3:05 pm "He’s a veteran guy. He’s got fresh legs. He hasn’t been banged around. So he will bring some good things to the table from the standpoint of good feet, knowing what to do, smart guy, plays hard, stays on blocks. Really is aggressive from that standpoint." - OL coach Hudson Houck on new starter OT Doug Free.

Encouraging words from Houck on Free.

sure hope so, its about time for doug free to step up, i do think that after this year, doug free will see that he needs to get alittle stronger in weight room. Will attack it with verosity wanting to be a starting OT in 2010

I still remember when he came out of college, his nickname was the Freak, because if his elite speed and quickness, had functional strength but not pro football strength. Remember it took Gurode about 4 years to to come into his own.

I have suspected that part of Folks missed FG has been because of a new holder who hasn't quite got it right yet. I know for sure one of the misses was because he placed the ball with laces facing Folk instead of away from him. Some of the problem on the rest could be because the ball is at a little different angle or some other thing like that, that is contributing to the misses.

I'm not blaming the misses all on McBriar, though. Every kicker will miss some now and then, but having a new holder might contribute too.

Colombo may be done for good. Hes way to injury prone, sad cause he has the potential to be a good nfl tackle. Free can hold the position for years to come if he can hold his own.

Doug Free is easily the most athletic tackle on the roster.

I'm curious about Free's strength because he's had two full off-seasons with the team following his rookie season to work on improving it.

It was an obvious issue coming in, which is pretty common for small school rookie offensive linemen (Robert Brewster this yr).

I hope Free's quickness will make it easier for him to get in proper position and to quickly recover if beaten whether his football strength remains an issue or not.

from the inside sources that i have heard on doug free, he still isnt strong in the weight room, the one problem with doug free strength wise, he isnt real big or thick in the lower body, chest wise he is, but not enough ballast in the big rear end or in lower body like his legs etc. In time with some more determination, he could be.

A few of the strongest offensive linemen are like Gurode, Leonard Davis. flozell and Travis Bright the rookie but whom is 26 years old from BYU.

Most offensive linemen dont get their functional strenght till their late 20s like Larry Allen did for example.

now if you watch film of doug free, you will see that he easily gets downfield on blocks in the 2nd level, etc like blocking safeties and linebackers past the line of scrimmage. If you also remember the play where romo threw the ball like 13 yards downfield to roy willliams and williams ran the ball downfield for some more yardage and fumbled. One cowboy player that showed up and tried to recover the football was doug free. He is very fast, at college before he fractured his foot, free ran the 40 like in 4.93. which is really fast for an offensive linemen, but after his fractured foot free ran slower.

If Free does well the rest of this year I think it's Flozell who's out at the end of the year, it's pretty obvious his play is on the decline.

If he does that, we could possibly move Columbo to left tackle with Flozell showing his age.

I understand what your thinking, but that wont work, columbo isnt quick enough for LOT, plain and simple. Columbo is more the ROT nasty, mean, brauler. Takes your most athletic offensive linemen to play LOT.

You possibly could move Flozell to OG, LOG. Flozell did play that positon early in his career and was pretty good. Again, you can cover up an offensive linemen inside, but the OT's are out there on an island so to speak at OT.

Probably something you forgot, Columbo his 2nd year had a dislocation of his kneecap. Took Columbo 2 years to recover from that, and to this day that one knee with kneecap problem limits columbo some. Dont misunderstand me, I love columbo, but he is better suited at ROT, thats who he is.

With all due respect, Houck isn't going to broadcast any shortcomings or weaknesses in Free's game.

Free might very well be serviceable, but you won't really learn anything about him from a Houck press blurb. He wouldn't trash him to the media even if he was a POS.
