How is TOP not at least equally on the defense?

If the defense forces a 3 and out vs a 12 play drive its a massive swing in time of possession, no?

TOP is a complete team stat, but in this case the data pretty clearly shows a much more significant issue defensively.

This is exactly why we are 1-1. This offense has a ton of sizzle, very little steak.

We need to be able to win multiple ways: control the clock, pound the rock, possession and efficiency or big strikes to win a track meet when necessary.

Right now, we can only win through the air, but games are won on the ground late in the year and in the playoffs.

Boat racing the Commanders at home might pad the stats… but it hardly means anything relevant when it comes to whether or not this team has the grit and fire to win in January

Yes....if our defense allows a 12 play drive, it leaves less time for our offense? IS that what you mean?

So WHY...can't OUR (allegedly) potent offense...do the same?

And if we DO score quickly, then that should show in the total offense stats. Our passing yards are average, and run yards abysmal. Scores just a bit off the leaders.....That might indicate a short field to score? And less TOP?

And if we can only do it through the air.....that reduces even further.

We MUST do better than 65 yards a game on the ground to improve our TOTAL TOP.

They ARE. This is literally what TOP per drive is measuring.

Dallas' average drive against NYG was 3:48 (excluding end of half). With 10 possessions (NFL average is ~10.5) in that game, Dallas would have possessed the ball for more than 34 minutes. Buffalo led the league last year at 33:18.

Just trying to find problems that don't exist. The offense is as dominant as it gets.

Kind of but I think overall the offense is doing a great job with long drives. They’re also killing clock well despite the low amount of run plays.

Against NY they had drives of
3 plays, 9 plays, 10 plays, 6 plays, 12 plays and 9 plays

Against Washington they had drives of
10 plays, 8 plays, 7 plays, 3 plays, 9 plays, 2 plays (short field TD), 7 plays, and 11 plays

For reference the average NFL drive has been 6 plays and that’s a number that’s been very consistent for years. By seasons end top offenses are around 6.5 plays per drive while bad offenses are around 5.5 plays per drive. This kind of shows how just 1 extra play per drive is significant.

The cowboys right now are averaging 7.5 plays per drive, which is well above normal and would actually be a new league record if AI is telling me the truth. The cowboys defense is giving up 8.6 plays per drive though and have 8 drives giving up 10 or more plays.

I truly don’t think people understand just how historically bad this defense has been through two weeks.

Who said I don't understand the value of that? TOP for the Cowboys offense is not a problem right now, and there's really no good argument for an offense to try to score slower lol.

Time of possession doesn't matter relative to scoring.

You don't need to run the ball to control the clock if you have an efficient passing game.

The Dallas offense is controlling the clock when they have possession.

Nah this offense is a continuation of last year's.

And we had 40 against the Packers, 31 against the Chiefs, 30 against the Lions and 26 against the Vikings. The offense is gonna have a few underwhelming days but there's no sign that it only beats the NFC east.

Didnt they lose to 3 of those 4 teams?
