Changes/Improvements on Offense:
1) OL - a. OT - Draft a young OT who can immediately challenge Pettiti and/or Colombo at RT & who in 2-3 years can be moved to LT to replace Adams. Adams then moves to RT to challenge Pettiti/Colombo if they still. 06 is good year for OTs & Winston or Scott will be available when we pick.
b. G - Allen (will be 35 Nov06) & Riveria (34 in Spring06). Should upgrade OG position now. Hopefully young stud OG like Max Jean Gilles & who would be available when we pick could challenge one of them in 06 or at least be quality replacement if 1 gets injuried. to replace either due to injury or even challenge for starting job. Allen prob has 1-2 more decent years left & who knows about Riveria. It will come down to where most need: OT or OG.
c. C - Johnson or Gurode: What a decision. Biggest impact immediately on OL will come by upgrading at center; suggest we spend cap money on good (not old) FA Center if one available. Hate using another draft pick yet again at center.
d. TE - Cut Campbell - Lost a step since foot injury. Sign inexpensive FA TE or draft blocking TE in later rounds who might even have some receiving skills. Of course, maybe Pierce or the another guy can come on.
e. FB - Polite is decent runner/catches the ball but blocking is poor. Unless he quickly significantly improve blocking, he's gone & we should sign inexpensive FA FB who can get the job done. Beasley of SF would probably cost too much and we need to spend our money more wisely then in 05.
f. WR - Cut Keyshawn. Love the guy/what he brings to team but can't get separation; move Crayton to Keyshawn's position & get the ball to him a lot more often. Use 1 of our first day 3 picks to draft quality WR or QB if one available--but don't reach. Would like to see lot more of Copper in next 2 games to see if he has ability become good NFL WR. While I would like to see us win both remaining games, we gotta see what some of our younger players have like: Copper, PS WR/CB Rector, Romo, etc.
g. We have 1 5th, 2 6th & 1 7th round picks on 2nd day. Draft BAA who can help on either side of the ball.
h. Also, somehow get us a good PK in FA either draft.
In order words, we need an OT, OG, and a Center along with a WR, blocking FB & maybe this is the year to draft a QB who can learn behind Bledsoe for a year or so if Romo not the guy. We had a good offseason in 05, drafting some good guys and can do the same in 06; only no signings of older FA players, except for proven PK.
Should would like to have another first day draft pick. Wonder if somehow we can acquire a 3rd round pick to slide down maybe 3 spaces.
One point on defense: Don't know whether Glover (or Ellis) will be back next year particularly given Glover's $4M+ cap hi in 06. Would like to see Ellis come back. Don't much if we would get much for either player in draft picks & Glover's contract would be a problem.
