Weems:
He really was not that bad. He and Collins misplayed a stunt that resulted in a sack, but Weems didn't really have a chance, IMO, because Colllins didn't slow his guy down before the switch off. They did manage to handle the same type of stunt later in the game with no problem.
Weems blocking was not pretty at times, but he managed to stay between the defender and the QB on passing plays. He did allow some pressure, but he was not allowing free shots on the QB. There were some plays where he was a little behind the defender off the snap but he managed to ride them either inside or outside past the QB.
He did get called for holding but it was a marginal call where he pushed the defender to the ground and just kept his hand on the defender for 1 count too long. In the old days they called that a pancake block but they often call holding these days when the OL takes the defender to the ground.
His run blocking was decent and sometimes really good.
Weems is not in the best situation. He is playing LT next to a rookie LG. I would really like to see him at RT next to Martin for a half just to see what he could do there.
Collins:
The physical part come easy to him. Even when he does not play proper technique, he has the strength and natural balance to recover from it. He can bully defenders at times with his power.
The issue is that he still makes many rookie mistakes. He needs to continue to work on how to handle twist stunts and sometimes he just blocks the wrong defender in the run game.
I still think he could play RT but reports indicate they don't want to overwhelm him at this point.
Gibson:
He didn't play last week but finally got some action late in the SF game. He is raw but he actually looked decent at RT. Physically he has really quick feet and appears to be strong. He did pancake defenders a couple of times.
He didn't really see much if any stunts or blitzes which is probably where he would have the most trouble. He basically just had to block the guy in front of him which he did fairly well.
Wetzel:
Somewhat opposite of a guy like Gibson. For a young player he seems to generally know what to do and his technique is usually decent; however, he is just not overly talented physically. He is neither overly strong or quick. I expect to see him on the practice squad again this year.
Dill:
Just not a good player. He seems to know what he should be doing but just can't do it.
Others:
I didn't focus on the other OLinemen.
