Cowboys OTAs shockers! Practice Takeaways, Standouts and News

I don't believe it can be done with Jerry. I've said it millions of times, I truly believe that the 2021, 2022, and 2023 Cowboys won despite Jerry Jones.

The same will be true if they have a successful winning season in 2025.
No I agree. I’ve said the same thing. Any success we’ve had was in spite of him not because of him. They have the hardest job in sports. Shotty has the toughest coaching job in the league bar none.

Sam Williams looks the part and his stats are amazing considering the number of snaps he has played. I guess the question is why has he seen so little playing time when he was healthy? is it maturity or is he just dumb. This is a make or break year for him I think.

I am not sold on Tolbert. He needs to show me.

Damone Clark has been a disappointment after his rookie season. If Eberflus can get him over the hump that would be a big bonus for Dallas.
there is a reason Williams snaps are limited. he only played on sure fire passing downs and his job was to pin his ears back and get after QB. if he played more snaps his stats would drop. people tend to just do simple math...that's not how it works. he has made a lot of mental mistakes and that's why he was limited. he has been nothing but a good back up at DE. bonehead on special teams that negate his defensive output.

Culture is inportant. It’s the correct approach. I just don’t know if it can be done with Jerry. But if it blows black it won’t be becaus it was a bad move.
And it won't be in September.........
Culture wins in the postseason.......when you need the entire team ( coaches and players )clicking on cylinders

Read this on X......
Talent can get you right, nine, ten wins

as we saw with Garrett that Culture can get you only so far ,Scheme is also important.
I believe a thing called Talent, is also important.

I do recall a certain NFL owner in the past saying, "Anyone could coach this team and win a SB."

Now we have a team, that no one could coach this team and win a SB.

I agree with this ........ let's also keep in mind he has now played for 2 different defensive coordinators and STILL hasn't cracked the starting lineup. He was Quinn's draft pick, so we know they had hopes of high-level play and starting by now. This is just my take but I question whether Sam's work ethic a bit coz it's obvious coaches don't fully trust him. Is he paying attention to small details and not looking for splash plays? Is he following keys instead of looking for splash plays?

He is a player with top 15 talent IMO........but way too many other issues going in the wrong direction

You mean he plays like Micha does, but only on 3rd downs.

I heard Milton stared down the receiver, ending in an easy INT by Clark.

I also heard Will Grier had a better pass completions percentage with 0 turnovers.
Grier was 2/2 100%, he was better than Dak and Milton on a completion percentage basis. Milton completed Completed 7 of 8 passes and Slak 8/14.

It is obvious that Milton is clearly the number 2. Dak throws 14 passes, Milton throws 8, and Grier gets 2. It’s not a competition. Dak is the 1 and Milton is the 2. Grier will be on the practice squad like last year. The Cowboys set it up perfectly.
Dak hit 8 of 14 passes. Milton 7 of 8, Grier supposedly 2 o3. As someone posted he hit all of his passes. But did not say how many. Wow, only 2 passes.

Milton outplayed Dak.

before his injury we just had a fairly solid rotation of de's and he was young and situational. think he was poised to take on a bigger role last year and unfortunately got hurt.

If the Cowboys come out flat in September this “culture” thing is gonna blow back bad in their faces
Define “flat”.

Is that win column or effort?

The bottom line is that the start of the season is a brutal schedule and the team still has some key gaps in the roster whether it’s due to lack of talent or injuries.

I will agree if they look lazy or the gameplan and coaching on game day are bad, then it’s culture. If they just get beat, well, many of us were projecting 7-9 wins this season anyway.

It's mental and disci0line with him. Football is about being smart. Not just athletic. If it was just athleticism then Olympic decathlon athletes would dominate NFL.

People often talk.avout talent but they mistake athleticism with talent. He is not as talented. He is athletic.

So I agree with you that with him it's mental, play recognition. Understanding the game situation. Being disciplined.

I think some young players get caught up worrying too much about their 2nd contract, especially after their first couple of years in the league. This sometimes leads to them hunting for stats, rather than playing or running as coaches expect. It was def an issue with Mazi's rookie year.
Let's face it, if coaches can't trust you to run their plays, you are not getting a lot of playing time.
