Cowboys Out on Earl Thomas

An incentive based deal with a target number of what he wants but with low guarantees, teams need to push this (mainly for players who are getting older and have had serious injuries)

Problem is cap rises.

Teams like the Niners, Colts etc have tons of cap to spend.

So a few million here and there is nothing for a team with 100 mill in cap space

Seriously people? We’re taking an article at face value before free agency even begins? Earl may have priced himself out of our reach. Whatever. But good on us for not falling in love with an aging, somewhat injury prone, albeit very good defensive player.

I do think the Cowboys will be aggressive, but not stupid. And we may still land Earl. This article means nothing, regardless of sources. If not, we move on. One Earl Thomas is not the lone missing piece to finishing the puzzle.

In my opinion, he’s just a name.

No question this was a FO leak........sending a message to ET, if you don't get your numbers right, we will move on. Look for Stephen wait couple weeks AFTER the start of free agency to sign one. Give ET a chance to gauge his market $15M or below 10.

This article means absolutely nothing, its the same smoke you see leading up to the draft. We are still a week away from the signing period opening and everything is posturing at this point.

A week away from the Jones vacation on the yacht

My take has always been that the Joneses would pay a reasonable price for Thomas but were never gonna bite on his “highest paid safety” fantasy.

This ain’t over yet. Let ET shop himself around and, unless there’s a team out there willing to break the bank on a @30yo S coming off a broken leg, maybe his asking price comes down to earth.

There’s no reason the Cowboys should get into a bidding war for ET.

Could be attempting to negotiate through the media but I didn't think they were going to sign him because there's just too much money out there and from better teams that he might make more of a difference on and actually get back to the big dance.

Would have liked to have our first good safety in over a decade. Ah well

I like Earl Thomas but only at a reasonable cost. If he is looking to be one of the highest paid safeties in the league then good luck with that but it will not be in Dallas. When factoring in age the injuries he has been dealing with including this past season it would not be a smart move in my view to pay him at the rate he wants. If he was a younger player then maybe so but at this stage of his career no. Now if Thomas has a change of heart and wants to play in Dallas to finish his career I would love to see it but it will be at a lesser salary
