Here we are again heading into the season with the Cowboys predicted by too many fans to be a SB contender without any recent playoff success.

If we aren’t even picked to win our division then we’d have to win 3 playoff games on the road .

I understand our defense should be better and we are revamping our offense but our new offensive scheme is totally unproven . And I understand the NFC appears down with most of the better QB’s and teams in AFC.

But why would we propel ourselves ahead other more proven teams and QB’s in the NFC like Phil and SF. Both with more recent playoff success , NFC championship & SB appearances .

Even with departure of Brady and Rodgers from NFC which appears to take those two teams from contention there is still 2 other QB’s in NFC with playoff success and SB appearances which I’ll be watching to see if their teams have turned around . One is considered by many to be one of the teams to watch for this year.

But until we can take the next step in the playoffs kicking down the huge monkey on our backs along with our QB’s back then I’d argue we are still more SB Pretenders than Contenders until further evidence.

This doesn’t mean we can’t have some positive mojo heading into this season. We have had two consecutive 12 win seasons and finally won a road playoff game but IMO it’s not enough for the SB Hype .

I’m looking forward to see how this team develops offensively and defensively. Can we win our division . If we can then our chances increase if we can get a playoff game or two at home. At that time then we can begin setting higher expectations . I’m not sure why some fans need to have this hype surrounding our team to get excited about the season.

There's no such thing as "overhyped" amongst your own fanbase. The world is busy telling us how bad we are and how bad Dak looks and how bad the team is that they have infighting.

Cleveland Brown fans right now think they have a shot. And they are right. Everyone is 0-0.....

Cowboys won 12 games last year. Won a playoff game and lost to the 49ers in the playoffs. Fanbases have a right to be optimistic. What this team did 20 years ago with Quincy Carter is irrelevant. What they did 10 years ago with Romo is irrelevant. What they did 7 years ago with Dak is irrelevant. Its a new team and a new season. Don't be afraid to be optimistic. Its not life or death. If we win we win. If we lose? Oh well. We will still root for this team or we won't. I'm thinking SB or championship appearance.

They aren’t overhyped.

Every pundit has them at 2 or 3 in the NFC. Back to back 12 win seasons and little turnover is solid evidence they will be good.

History shows its difficult / impossible to repeat to the Super Bowl. it also shows hard to repeat in the NFC East.

Eagles and 49ers took blows to their coaches and talent.

Will Dallas likely be the team to go to the Super Bowl? Probably not.

Its a year a random team like Dallas, Detroit, Seattle gets to the big game due to lack of elite teams.

But you can argue that a team who won a total of 13 games improved at their biggest weaknesses.

Forcing Zeke? No more
WR2? Cooks
CB2? Gilmore
Stagnant offensive calls? Gone

I’d agree. Im looking forward to this season as well. But we don’t have to buy into the SB hype to be optimistic or excited.

I don’t know if over hyped is the word.

If you don’t think they’re good enough to get over the hump again this season. That’s fair and you might be right.

However I think there’s legitimate reason to think they absolutely can be one of the top teams in the NFC this year and if the ball bounces their way, may finally get back to an NFC title game or Super Bowl.

Of course ya just never know.

If you’re a fan of the team, why wouldn’t you think they can win it all? I’m not going in to any season thinking for another dud year.
It doesn’t have to be a dud. There’s middle ground. I get excited about each season.

But you don’t go into every season , and I’ve been around for 60 of them , thinking you’re going to win the SB.

There’s been many years we had recent success and current trends to believe in that.

That’s fair. I’m always an optimist so it probably skews any realities about the team in my mind lol

I didn’t say there wasn’t a possibility and legitimate reason to think they can be one of the top teams in NFC.

What I’m saying is without that recent trend and history why do we need to hype as a SB contender ? What purpose does it serve except to disappoint .

This team is going to stay overhyped forever. Or until they finally pull their heads out of their butts and prove everyone wrong.

Word of advice? Don't hold your breath waiting for this to happen. I'm sure Jerry overhyped the team back in the Campo days. How did that work out again?

What did last year, and many years ago is relevant. The common denominator is still running the show. The players and coaches change, but the GM is still the same old dog and pony show.
