Here we are again heading into the season with the Cowboys predicted by too many fans to be a SB contender without any recent playoff success.

If we aren’t even picked to win our division then we’d have to win 3 playoff games on the road .

I understand our defense should be better and we are revamping our offense but our new offensive scheme is totally unproven . And I understand the NFC appears down with most of the better QB’s and teams in AFC.

But why would we propel ourselves ahead other more proven teams and QB’s in the NFC like Phil and SF. Both with more recent playoff success , NFC championship & SB appearances .

Even with departure of Brady and Rodgers from NFC which appears to take those two teams from contention there is still 2 other QB’s in NFC with playoff success and SB appearances which I’ll be watching to see if their teams have turned around . One is considered by many to be one of the teams to watch for this year.

But until we can take the next step in the playoffs kicking down the huge monkey on our backs along with our QB’s back then I’d argue we are still more SB Pretenders than Contenders until further evidence.

This doesn’t mean we can’t have some positive mojo heading into this season. We have had two consecutive 12 win seasons and finally won a road playoff game but IMO it’s not enough for the SB Hype .

I’m looking forward to see how this team develops offensively and defensively. Can we win our division . If we can then our chances increase if we can get a playoff game or two at home. At that time then we can begin setting higher expectations . I’m not sure why some fans need to have this hype surrounding our team to get excited about the season.
They have a very good chance of winning the division and being the number 1 team in the NFC. At worst they are a top 3 team in the NFC.
1. Eagles
2. 49ers
3. Cowboys
4. Seahawks
5. Lions

Agreed.

The way it seems you have

EAST - Philly or Dallas
NORTH - Lions
SOUTH - Saints
WEST - Seahawks or 49ers

Second in the East and West will go to the playoffs.

This will leave one playoff spot for teams like New York, Atlanta, Washington etc.

I don’t know if over hyped is the word.

If you don’t think they’re good enough to get over the hump again this season. That’s fair and you might be right.

However I think there’s legitimate reason to think they absolutely can be one of the top teams in the NFC this year and if the ball bounces their way, may finally get back to an NFC title game or Super Bowl.

Of course ya just never know.

It’s like everyone has already forgotten the 2007 Giants, 2011 Giants, 2012 Ravens…

A little luck can go a long way.

Now I'm usually on the OP side of things however disagree this year.

Defense has the capabilites of fielding a top 3-5 unit. Offense has the capabilites of fielding a top 10 unit. WR group is greatly improved and think we will be completely fine at the RB position. Kicker....

Argurably comes down to QB and OL health however that can be said for any team.

Eagles and niners the biggest obstacle.. with this line up and we stay relatively healthy absolutely no reason why we shouldn't sniff at least the conference game. Could argurably be one of the most talented teams we've had in a very long time bar a year or two

The regular season is key.

If they aren’t good enough to win the division, they aren’t winning three road playoff games in a row.

Too much advantage is given to the one seeds. Brady blew that up early on, but we are going to see mostly one seed Super Bowls moving ahead.

So, if they get the one and need to only win two home games to get to the SB, it can be done. That’s probably the only way.

We can't call them Superbowl contenders until they win the Superbowl!

Stay tuned for more hot takes.

So you are saying we are NOT a SB contender? If the definition is one of 6-8 teams that can win the SB, then yes we are. Firmly in at #3 in the NFC.

Are we a favorite? NO, but we are a contender. We were a contender last season.

If you’re a fan of the team, why wouldn’t you think they can win it all? I’m not going in to any season thinking for another dud year.
Because my daily so-called 9-5 job is in the engineering field which keeps me grounded in reality, probabilities, and void of dreams.

Up until somewhat recently the Cowboys have always been over-hyped. If the Cowboys true ceiling was just over .500, the talking heads would toss the Cowboys hat in the ring as a Superbowl contender just so they could talk about them. After all, that's what polarizing teams do, they garner attention and who's polarizing than the Dallas Cowboys?

It's only been recently that the proverbial cat has escaped the bag and everyone has pretty much caught on to the Cowboy ruse. Now, the talking heads have seen the light and have realized they can get as many clicks, maybe more, for saying the Cowboys are perennial phonies.

I believe we're over-hyped within this forum but perhaps not nationally. Most pundits have us penciled in as probably the 3rd best team in the NFC. Not bad, and realistically, that's probably where we belong and that position does warrant optimism for a deep playoff run. I just think that little Dutch boy has his finger in the Dam of the offensive line and just may remove it when we need it plugged the most.

Will be a fun ride though and can't wait for the season to get going.

this is a SB caliber team with a SB caliber quarterback and not even missing the playoffs would convince me otherwise
