They go way back to New Years Day 1967 in the Cotton Bowl. The only NFL Title game played in the Cotton Bowl. Merideth would throw a game ending interception to seal the Packers victory 34-27 which was the end to the Cowboys first winning season in 1966 . The beginning of 20 consecutive winning seasons which is still a NFL record.

In the same calendar year the Cowboys would return to the NFL Title game against the Packers . This time in Green Bay in 13 below frigid temperatures labeled the famed " Ice Bowl". The frozen tundra at Lambeau Field would forever take on new meaning for Cowboy and NFL fans. Starr's QB sneak to end the game and come from behind victory 21-17 sent the Packers back to their second Super Bowl and their 5th championship in the 60's , still a NFL record . That Packers team is considered by many the greatest NFL team ever. With currently 12 HOF players ( the most by any team in an era)and their 5 rings in a decade it's difficult to argue.

It was two very disappointing losses to begin the Cowboys post season history. No shame for a young emerging team to lose to what is considered one of if not the greatest team but when you get that close it's not comforting at the time when the plays were out there to win.

It also begun a stretch where we were called "Next Year Champions" with consecutive disappointing playoff losses to the Browns in 68 & 69 following then our 1st Super Bowl loss in 1970 to the Colts. It wasn't until 1971 and SB VI victory that we put this label to rest.

Looking back it's what could have been. If we'd of won those first two championships the Cowboys might have had a dominating run for several years in the late 60's. The Super Bowl trophy could have been named Landry instead of Lombardi . Merideth wouldn't have retired early amongst the criticism and our history would have been rewritten.

We wouldn't meet again in the playoffs until 1993 which begun 3 meetings thru 1995 dominated by our Tripletts and our greatest team in history. They would have met again in 1996 but the defending Champions were knocked out at Carolina .

And our next meeting wouldn't be until 2014. Now remembered as the "Catch that wasn't ". A very painful loss that would have sent the Cowboys to their first championship appearance since 1995 season. It appears that was Romo's last shot to validate his career with the Cowboys with at least a championship appearance.

We are faced again with a playoff game with the Packers which could change the course of history . Rodgers looking to put an exclamation point on one of the most impressive comebacks in his career after beginning this season 4-6 looking like his best days were behind him now playing at MVP level again versus a young and upcoming team with 2 Rookie sensations looking to make their mark on history .

How will this playoff matchup change their courses in history ?
