Cowboys plan on franchise tagging Osa

I actually applaud the move......It's a one year deal to buy us time. Look @ the alternative. It's better than chaining yourself to a contract in the range of 4 years 100 million....then have the guy start loafing like Diggs......then your stuck w/ a contract w/ 3 years left...and probably 50 to 60 million in dead money.

Think people.....this is the right move. He's gonna have to ball his *** off this year to get the bag.

He's gonna be motivated.....Or we can still trade him. Hell....It's better than letting him walk away for nothing...and getting a 5th round comp pick in 2 years.
agree, and then draft some guys , and see how they do, lets find a replacement then let him walk
next season, or trade him .

The jones boys seem to be doing things better recently, and this osa thing is from the past,
and they are dealing with it differently.
Shotty could be a good influence on them.

OSA playing on the tag is dumb for a variety of reasons I agree. The better route to go is to reach a longer extension, but people are too caught up in the AAV. DT contracts are not that bad for the most part because the guaranteed money isnt that bad on them. Even Chris Jones sitting at the top got 60% guaranteed, just 37% as signing. If OSA really wants to play hardball and is pushing for more than that, then I would agree....let him test FA and potentially move on. If they can get him at a 5/$110 type of deal ($38 at signing, 65 gtd overall) it would be a fairly backloaded cap hit that they could get out of pretty easily after a couple years.

Percentage wise those are similar contract terms to Ed Oliver who I think is a solid player comp for OSA
Osa aint Chris Jones
At 20 million id move on from Osa

I'll tag him before signing him LT, with the hope we move on. OSA has disappeared for long periods and been unproductive against the run.

For running a 4-3 that supposed to feature the 3 tech and teams accounting for Micah you think you would see 7-8 sacks in a year.

Osa showed the last half of the season in a contract year, and it wasn't special

Tag him and draft a guy

…I know yall not complaining about if we tag him that’s less money for free agency

As if we’re going to spend there anyways

I don't believe this story. Even Dallas is not that stupid. I think they put this out there in the hopes it might get Osa to take a deal with them now. I don't think it will work. Osa is going the free agent route and he will get that kind of money in free agency, just wait and see.

The should turn their attention to Milton Williams.

I understand people that want to move on from OSA, but I dont get turning around just to sign Milton Williams who has been basically the same player. Negotiating with OSA under a tag is probably easier than negotiating with Williams on the open market. I wouldnt be surprised if Williams ends up getting more money.

Absolute madness.

Osa Odighizuwa. Franchise tag player.

We are a joke, trash organization.
I hope it’s only temporary until they can sign him to a long term deal but I certainly saw this coming. Absolutely have to keep this dude. We lose him and our DT takes a HUGE step backwards.

LOL

Yes. We can't afford to lose a mediocre pass rusher and poor run defender.

The nightmare that would be. We're liable not to have good DT play anymore.

Agree completely. I know this isn't Chris Jones we are talking about here, but OSA is a lot harder to replace than people realize. It would be very odd to bring in a guy like Eberflus only to let a legitimate 3T walk out the door. Unless the guaranteed money demands are unrealistic for OSA alonger deal in the low 20s is not a tough thing for the Cowboys to navigate here. The cap hit will be mostly backloaded and these deals are typically easy to get out of after a couple years if the player isnt performing to the contract.
