Cowboys plan to pick up 5th year option on Tyler Smith

And your point is?
Just because they locked him up early, does not necessarily mean they saved a lot down the road.
Tough to know the specifics for now, but I’m sure it’s about the general philosophy.

Some still think they would spend the cap savings on savior free agents if they had more of it.

They would not, and we know this because the cap space is and has been there to create all along. They either don’t know how to work it (which I don’t believe) or choose to do so in this manner although it’s been more than proven not to work.

It’s kinda clear….the goal is to never have a down cycle and they won’t risk having that be the case by trying to win it all over a short period. The problem is they have to compete against other teams that operate that way.

I just feel bad for the Eagles who will have to give those trophies back once they are cap strapped.

Unless he gets seriously injured you always save down the road. Almost every year contracts go up. But Cam Jurgens did have back surgery in the offseason so that is something to keep an eye on. Currently he is the second highest paid center.

But look at us with Micah Parsons. We should have resigned him last offseason. Instead we are still waiting around while his price goes up up and up due to other pass rushers inking deals.

Fans get too caught up in all of this. Especially they want to compare to other teams. Mostly so they can rag of the FO IMO.
Which the FO deserves it at times.
And it is much easier to do that, as you may have noticed. It is easier to compare the recent SB winners to try to make that point.

My thoughts as I posted above about fans get too caught up in all of the salary cap issues, and sign this player now mantra.

Truth is 98% of fans do not know how the cap works, and how it is effected down the road. Many moving parts as well, as running a team. We den not know all the inner workings of both. But they sure like to comment on it. And that is fine. It opens a lot of discussion topics.

I don't care about any of that, it always works itself out somehow. If a team wants a player, they will find a way to get or keep that player.

Micah's price was always going to be around what is being discussed. There was no huge market setter out there that was going to impact his contract. Fans think it will be by waiting, but it really will not be that big of a difference.

The cap problem is real.

We watched Rush and Lance both leave for more $$$$ from the Harbaugh Bro’s.

We got Grier and Milton.

Why? Likely because we are in year 2 of a rebuild. If Dak gets hurt, it won’t really matter who the QB is.

That 5th will likely get rolled into his extension.

Our QB was hurt last year, and it didn't matter either.
They did not leave because of cap issues. Do you really think Dallas would pay them that much to stay.
They currently have $38 million in cap space. And the team is choosing to go in a different direction. That was obvious from last years off-season.

I’m giving the new scheme a chance to work.

Big Mike’s Texas toast was a train wreck.
Seems like we were forcing certain players into a system and position they shouldn't have been put into.

Fans understand the basics of the salary cap. The owners’ perspective is it insures parity and thus competitiveness. The players’ perspective is owners must pay a minimum to players and they are guaranteed to share in revenue increases.

The angst from fans is justified as since it’s an even playing field financially it comes down to which front offices are the smartest. It is obvious Jerry Jones enjoys financial success, but is far from the smartest when it comes to putting together a great team.

I think the number is higher than 98% and I’m certainly on that list, but we do know it’s a choice as far as how a team can go about it.

Really the largest point is they have been doing it one way for a long while, it hasn’t worked, yet no attempt or thought of change.

They want to call it bad luck but that’s not it. They were good enough maybe once or twice in the last 30 years to make an actual deep run. Late January football shows DTs dominating (and way before Philly last year) yet it’s a position they don’t value. That’s systematically flawed and they don’t seem to get that.

Roseman tells you to hold his cap problem beer while he has a 50 mil QB, 30 mil WR, 20 mil WR, 20 mil RB, 25 mil RT, 23 mil LT, 21 mil LG, 17 mil C And a 20 mil TE that they may/may not move on from.

Stop spreading these cap lies.

The annual cap amount per year is the SAME for every team.
How the Dallas Cowboys handle their contracts is the every year failure.
NOT THE CAP.
Period.

Mike Solari was a dinosaur who lacked in not only knowing what scheme to run but not knowing who his basic best 5 were or assigning them the positions that would best improve the team.

His pass block and run block numbers were middle to poor for the last decade or more.
I've posted all those actual numbers in previous posts when you tried to say he was good then.

He sucked.
But yeah, McCarthys and schott were clueless as well as far as implementing a sound, modern run game.

No, he's an exception to the rule, he's all pro, you don't mess with an all pro
Really, Did you say the same thing when ALL PRO Martin(left tackle at ND) moved outside because of injury..Tyler played Left tackle his rookie season for the often injured Tyron Smith....He's the BEST option at left tackle on this team right now, Steele and Guyton are better suited to start at right tackle..unless they draft another Offensive tackle in the draft at 12..
