Cowboys playoff hopes revolved around the defense being much improved

Currently the Cowboys are 31st ranked defense which is not enough improvement from last years 32nd to make a playoff push.

I think most who touted this defense felt it would be at least closer to average which would mean about 16th ranked defense.

I know it’s still early in season and there’s still time but I’d argue the sense of urgency is of the essence . Unfortunately this game may not be the right matchup.

Texans are in a much more must win than the Cowboys. They have been a consistent playoff team last 3 years and while they also begun 0-3 last year they recovered finishing the season 12-2.

While their offense has been struggling they still have a top 10 caliber defense which could slow our high powered offense enough to exploit our defense .

Next week against Tampa another 0-3 team looks to be much more for the taking at home to bounce back to 2-3. And that’s likely where this season is going hovering around .500 or below with this defense.

I never expected the defense to go from 32 to middle of the pack right away. Figured it would slowly move up in the rankings as the season went along. Never expected a top 12 defense.

They have improved a little each week. But now injuries have decimated the secondary. So it will not improve for quite a while.
We have other issues besides injuries to secondary. We have NO Edge.

Bottomline remains is if it doesn’t improve enough our playoff hopes are greatly diminished.

Playoff hopes were based on defense being able to be around middle of the pack by the end of the season. After 3 games there's nothing to indicate that's not achievable.
Everyone with the ability to express basic reasoning skills pointed out that it would take at least 6-8 games to get completely up to speed with a new defensive scheme and majority of new players.
It's no one fault had unreasonable expectations but your own!

Stopped reading here. It's almost exhausting being right every year. Others who fall for the annual okie doke every year call me a pessimist. Just because I have a understanding of the game and pay attention to what goes on. And everything I state stays true to the same script that plays out each year. I mean honestly at this point even a seven year old could figure it out.

The biggest issue with this defense early this season was the desperate need for a pass rush. We have none.

The Porter trade makes no sense at this point IMO when the lack of a pass rush still puts all the pressure on the secondary to cover longer than they should have to.

A trade for a pass rusher would have made a lot more sense.

Maybe we aren’t done trading?

This at least makes some sense with our injuries in secondary?.

And for us giving a 2nd in 2028 isn’t like we usually hit on a 2nd round pick anyway. Especially on defense :)

This coaching staff won’t be here in 2028 if this season spirals down.

Need to get quality coaching in here or it doesn't matter how many trades we make.

You have to remember who are pseudo GM is. He’s always loved him some corners…

This is a really good You're going to trade that provides immediate talent in a depleted secondary. I think the cowboys look at the pass rush as being close to hitting home. They do seem to penetrate but they just can't finish the play. If von miller isn't going to give them the veteran presence they need they need to replace him quickly. I hope they are working behind the scenes to pull off a similar trade for an edge rusher who can finish the play.

So this is about where yall thought the defense would be heading into October?

We are right on schedule? Or do yall have any concerns?
You threw in the towel too early. The defense is slowly getting better and Porters going to hopefully help. See how silly you look for giving up so early?
