I know the average fan wont understand that logic, but if you listen to what the team has to say they want to get Romos money out of the way within 2 yrs, and they dont want to commit big years to Dez. I think they want to have the ability to get rid of Romo in 2 years without ruining the cap for the future. If he is still playing at a high level, that is great. Just keep him around then with much less salary cap pain.

Big mistake, we are too close the top.

Windows close and open quickly in the NFL. Any long term plans can go up in smoke. Look at SF and PHI. Six months ago they were on top of the NFC.
