Cowboys defensive end Randy Randy Gregory (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday, Dallas Dallas Cowboys .com reports.

He'll get the team's bye week to fully heal and get back up to speed before rejoining the defensive end rotation against the Giants in Week 6. The Cowboys pass rush, led by Greg Hardy, got to Tom Brady for five sacks last Sunday, and with second-round pick Gregory also back in the mix they could make life very difficult for Eli Manning.

Assuming Randy Gregory does in fact return after the bye week, how good can this pass rush be?

Gosselin: "In training camp, when everyone was healthy, I thought this had the potential to be a 44-45-sack pass rush. Gregory's speed would have made everyone better and Greg Hardy's flexibility or being able to line up anywhere up front would have given Rod Marinelli favorable passing-down matchups. You saw the impact of Hardy last weekend. Add Gregory to that mix and this could still be a special pass rush this season. But the window isn't open too wide -- not with Hardy free to walk in free agency at the end of the year."

The defense looked good but need to get in better shape to last four quarters? How much will Gregory improve this defense?

Gosselin: "This defense will be able to compete going forward. Greg Hardy was a huge addition and so will Gregory when he's healthy. They'll be able to get to the quarterback -- and good things happen for defenses who can apply that pressure. I would expect the Cowboys to play lower-scoring games going forward...

IRVING, Texas – For about three weeks in training camp, we got a chance to see it.

But when the regular season began, we weren’t able to witness it again until now. And as the Cowboys find themselves on a three-game losing streak and trying to rely on the defense even more with two key offensive starters out, the return of this dynamic couldn’t come at a better time.

The Cowboys’ all-star lineup of defensive linemen should be on the field together for the first time since the preseason. And even then, the schemes were rather vanilla as they were trying to hide the packages and rotations.

Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli has been waiting for this. And as the Cowboys return to the field this week in preparation for the Giants, he’ll finally have a full repertoire of pass-rushers to send at Eli Manning this Sunday.

Greg Hardy, DeMarcus Lawrence, Randy Gregory, Tyrone Crawford and Jeremy Mincey are all expected to play together for the first time this year...

That's great. Only issue with this week against the Giants is the Eli takes only 2 or 4 step drop backs before his release. If we can get a lead that should change.

Stop the run and all that quick throw crap doesn't matter.

I think another issue is that we have to find a way to sustain drives and score points. Even the best defense (which we are far from) will tire after being on the field, due to a boat load of three and outs and mistakes by the offense.

Hardy should be able to eat the Giants rookie tackle Flowers for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Would love to see Eli roughed up a little.

Man I just hate reading these media types when they only tell half the story. We all know Hardy could walk after this year.....but he and Jerry both said they want to work out a long term deal. The window isn't open too wide? I suppose that is true if you are a negative nancy type. JMO but we are building for the long term.

To be fair, I think Goose went senile a few years back. His draft coverage was always his strong point, now he kinda just rambles incoherently to fill his quota.

If Hardy performs, he'll be in Dallas. I don't think that's even a question.
