Because I'm not pumping sunshine and thrilled about mediocrity?

Sorry, I'm not about to apologize for .500 or worse not being good enough.

You can keep your low standards if you like, I expect better.

And if having a different view somehow makes me a 'bully' to you, so be it.

I don't expect everyone to agree with my views but I'm not going to beat them up for it.

Stay cool, bro!

We all gotta do what we all gotta do.

We can all react to mediocrity in our own way.

No right or wrong way to do it.

I'm leary only because he graded out near the top of the league not too long ago now people aren't jumping all over him. So what's the problem.

I agree they should wait until after the draft. They can get a vet FA to shore up what they need then. They actually have until the end of TC to acquire somebody although you'd like someone new to the system to get some reps.

It's quite possible that the grades for the draftee OTs are close to or possibly higher than Winston as well.

Let's look at some factors:

- Winston is wanting $3-4M/yr and some stability.

- He will be on his third team in three years. (when he signs somewhere) KC is possibly trading Brandon Albert to MIA and they are probably a lock to draft the highest rated OT on most mocks. It makes you wonder why they cut Winston who was due a $4.9M base salary if he stayed this year. They cut one OT and are shopping the other? That's some strange management going on there.

- Matt Kalil was the first OT taken last year at the #4 pick. His contract was a four-year, $19,770,598 contract. The deal is fully guaranteed, including a $12,818,620 signing bonus. 2013: $1,288,663, 2014: $2,187,326, 2015: $3,085,989, 2016: Free Agent

Let's assume that KC takes an OT with their pick. They are going to pay more than what they would have for Winston in his second year of the deal. So why are they willing to do this?

It could only mean that they see better OTs in the draft with more upside. It also means that other franchises around the league view Winston in the same way.

You were a bully in school, huh? :laugh2:

That's all you do is come here to start trouble.

And, actually, bro, the Cowboys are 0 for 0 right now.

The fact you are happy about the McCray signing, shows that you get happy over anything the cowboys do.

He was legit the worst player on the team last year, yes he beat out doug free for that.

I think what he is pissed about has more to do than just the record.

Things like this McCray signing, the way we would just not show up for games and not execute, ect...

I for one don't like to throw rocks and sand at Jerry, for every little thing he does, like most here do, but I will say this is a stupid decision on his behalf. I won't dwell on it though, we still have the draft, personal player growth and the rest of FA to go.

and we can still cut him if another player steps up. According to many posters here all they have to do is be younger. For me thats not enough but im silly like that.

If we draft someone and he beats out McCray great, if not at least we can sign a rock to do the same thing, but its not worth getting upset over. I can see if some posters do not just for being pessimistic but its just their true gut. But for some, including myself sometimes, its just being knee jerk. For me minus the knee.

Part of the problem here is none of us know exactly how highly the FO thinks of Jeremy Parnell and to a lesser extent Darrion Weems. They may be set with Parnell as the starter and are just looking for a vet OT to play the swing Tackle position and compete against Weems and a draft a pick. If that is the case it is understandable that they may not wish to break the bank on Winston.

I actually feel that OG is a much bigger need than Tackle or Center which are typically much harder holes to fill. I still am really hoping we sign Brandon Moore before the draft lest some team that misses on him start a bidding war that we cannot win.

Agreed on all points. IF the team believes in Parnell going forward, then giving Winston his contract may not be the best allocation of money for this year and beyond. Winston has said he'll take $3-4M, but we don't know if he's willing to take that on a short term deal or if he wants something that will commit the team to him for the next three years or so. That's a big commitment for a guy who may be a swing tackle, or who would push a possible quality starter in Parnell to swing tackle.

If we were going to sign a lineman before the draft, it makes some sense to sign a veteran guard. Even if Cooper falls in our laps or we take a guard on day two who can start early, we could easily use two starting guards. I'd still hope we get Moore, but we just don't know what he wants or how long he wants it for.

The only tackle I'd like to see before the draft would be Clabo. Again, IF the team thinks Clabo could play guard at a high level, IF he is willing to slide to guard if they want Parnell at tackle, he gives more flexibility than Winston.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of the McCray contract, I don't see the fact that we haven't signed Winston as a lack of commitment to the O-line. We don't know who the team might cut after the draft to make more room, if there is or isn't a deal in principle with Spencer that would free up cap room, or what the greatest areas of need might be after the draft. It may very well be that the $3-4 million for Winston could be better used elsewhere after the dust settles in a week.

And a COMPLETE liability in every other capacity

A one trick pony that can't be counted on for anything else.

You can get any UDFA to fill that role for pennies.

+1, dude cant cover, cant tackle...

McCray's 1.3 million salary is on the books since the time he was tendered, and will remain until he is cut. If he makes the team he gets the $1.3 million.

What it means is that some players' contracts were extended when there was no need to. Had they not tendered McCray, they would have been able to sign Durant and that safety with out a problem.

Had McCray not been tendered, I doubt that any other team would have signed him, and surely not for $1.3 million. They could have brought him back on a vet minimum salary to compete. But this front office over values our players, and thinks that other teams will line up to sign our worst players.

Enough already...Simple discussion of the thread --no barbs or insults....

If you are you should be more positive. Winning starts with positive thinking and talking about things that could be made better. Not pointing out every mistake or every negativity and putting the finger in every wound. That's negativ thinking and leads to nothing else then depression and hate.
