Signed by Cowboys Cowboys re-sign S Markquese Bell

They know what they have in Bell. How many 7th rounders can come in and take over right away.
Bell is much better than a 7th rounder at this point. As you need to maintain a group of core players. No rookie learning curve.
What????? Breaking News dude......Everyone is learning a new defense this year. So why over pay to keep a scrub that doesn't have a position.....and can't cover?

This is Wil McClay and Stephen scrapping the toilet......and feeding it to the public.

I'm done with the BS in this organization.......and everytime they try to pull this......I'm calling them on it.

I don’t understand stuff like this. You can find a guy like Bell in the 7th round or undrafted free agency. Yet we hear “cap cap cap” excuses when it comes to guys that can make a real impact like Derek Henry.
I get what you’re saying.

He was rated the #1 special teams player per PFF pre injury.

Wilson likely is released and Bell / Thomas start at SS

I’m sure the contract details will show little guaranteed money and cuttable after a year….but…$4M per for a guy that played 34 snaps last year? I like Bell but this team just has no friggin clue what they are doing. Do you like him or not like him. The safety play was just not good and in a lost season they still gave little run to the younger guys to see what they have and who they like.

The first year cap is lower than 4. That’s why they extended him.

Problem is, they seem to be freeing up money and we don’t know what they will do with it

Of course it is. It ALWAYS is lower than the contract AAV. I’m not sure what your point is.

The point is you’re talking about $4 million per year and he may not even have guaranteed $$$ and released next offseason.

It’s as if you didn’t read my post that you quoted that literally started with:

“I’m sure the contract details will show little guaranteed money and cuttable after a year”

Then go tell them. Write them a letter, send them an email. Take out a billboard.
No need to come down on other fans just because they disagree with you. Which I still do. And apparently so do many others.

Sounds like you want this to be 1989 wommymJimmy and get rid of every player. Then go 1-15 but no Jerschel Walker to save us.

Yes everyone learning a new defense, but it has similarities to defense each has played before. So you keep some of those players with NFL experience over a 7th rounder. There are only so many roster spots for those draft picks. And you can’t sign 35 FA’s.

He sucks......Too small to play LBer......too slow to cover as a SS. It's these types of moves that keep us in salary cap hell.....and we suck. Now watch us depend on the guy thinking our problems @ LBer are now solved. Bolton and Ernest Jones sign deals.....we panic.

Such a Stephen over pay.....
Lol

Wilson>Bell.........and it's not even close. Wilson was the only guy that gave a crap in the secondary last season. Guy makes plays.......and he's willing to make a tackle. Give me that guy.
Wilson can't cover my dead grandmother. Save the money and move on from Wilson.

I'm not a big fan of Bell, but let's not exaggerate Wilson. He was *** for about the first 10 weeks.

I guess they think he can have more of a role in Matt's defense. Curious to see where he lines up as it was 2 years ago when he got significant snaps, but as a hybrid LB.
Do they see him as a Wilson replacement?

Have you seen his stats from 2023? He only started 8 games but played 649 snaps, 94 tackles. Do the math, subtract 10/20% ( special team ) and you will see how well he played. I'm pretty sure he was one of our top 3 run defenders. BUT, for whatever reason didn't fit Zimm's scheme or Zimm just didn't like him coz "last year" he didn't start one game. Eberflus runs a system similar to Quinn. So it's no surprise he would wanna keep Bell.
Bottom line IMO.......this is an excellent signing coz he's way better than Wilson IMO.
