Signed by Cowboys Cowboys re-sign Sam Williams

I guess I don't hate this like many of you. The talent is there. And, hopefully, a talented defensive coaching staff can bring it out of him. I saw they had signed him and I was afraid it would be 3 years at 10 each.

I appreciate you, Nip.

Man! Tough crowd in here sometimes. Lol
Someone just do that to me last week. I don’t remember what it was but the person I replied too understood exactly what I meant. I remember now I said that if I’m Miami I’d rather have Kyler than all of these QBs….of course I didn’t mention Mendoza because to me he was penciled in to Raiders but some smart *** had to tell me im
High if I think Mendoza was better. Clearly I wasn’t talking about him as option.
Why has Sam Williams started less games? Because he can’t beat out the guys in front of him. He was a second round pick. Our FO would love to pencil him in as a starter if they could.
I mean who was he suppose to beat out? Micah or Law?

Williams is the perfect example of a Cowboy player who had done very little but is re-signed anyway.
Why sign him?
Why?

Last year it was a rookie second round pick.

Come on man what’s the argument here. That Sam is actually good? He stinks so far.

I don’t hate this move. Sam Williams teased some traits a few years back and I think the past changes at coordinator haven’t helped him.

I’ll give the new staff the benefit of the doubt about helping him.
Showed something in 2022-23.

Then the injury.

But has good speed and obvious talent.

They need Edge LBs too.

I don't care what the price is - Sam Williams is a dumb football player. Even at a low price point, the stupidity on the field makes him a liability. Not a road I would go down.
:hammer:Huge head scratcher for me....Been raking my brain all day wondering WTH are they thinking???? Only thing I could come up with was....using him as a nickle pass rusher from the 5 tech....whenever they run the 3-4.....in 3rd and 4th downs...long distances.

He may be better suited to play olb in the 3-4. Body type reminds me of Anthony Spencer.

This is actually somewhat interesting. Maybe Sam needed more time to recover from a torn ALC and MCL, because his second half went under rated. Personally he makes me irrate with his stupidity, but this is encouraging I suppose...

Williams' season was a tale of two halves, earning him the title of PFF's "Most Improved" edge rusher in the second half of the year.

Overall Grade: 57.5
Early Season (Weeks 1–9): Struggled significantly with a 39.9 grade, ranking near the bottom of the league.

Late Season (Week 10–18): Surged to an 80.6 grade, the 11th-best at his position during that span.
Run Defense: Finished with a solid 74.7 run-defense grade (13th overall).
Pass Rush: Recorded 24 pressures and a 55.0 pass-rush grade.

I stated before that resigning Sam Williams because of his versatility and special teams should happen and was a going to happen.

He reminds me of Jason Hatcher who took 5-7 years to blossom into a Pro Bowler. At least someone had a GM brain cell with the Arlington Jonesboys.

There is nothing to hate. He is either a camp body or he proves to CP he can be a contributor. If the Cowboys decide to move on, then simply cut him.

This defense is in dire need of both quality starters and role players…Williams is neither. All he did was run his mouth. He has been on the team for 3 years and while physically talented, lacks the football IQ and situational awareness to be a consistent contributor under multiple coordinators. This money could be better spent elsewhere. At the very least he could have been a late signing by the Cowboys.

This is a "show me" year for Williams who should have plenty saved up from what he didn't show in last season's "show me" year.
