Cowboys refrain from splash pick and go with need

The pick doesn't surprise me. Adding more receivers isn't going to help this team, an offensive line that can facilitate running the ball to ensure that your game plan doesn't come down to relying on Dak Prescott's arm is. His best season is still the rookie year where they had one of the best running games in the league.
This is true regarding building the offense on this team.

Forcing a pick is how you swing and miss. If there isn’t a receiver that helps us in this draft, then don’t draft one at all. Keep drafting BPA and then trade for one after the draft using a pick from next years draft.
They forced their first picks didn't they? Booker couldn't have been the highest rated player on their board, could he?

The point is, if they do not take a WR at 44, they may as well not daft a WR at all. Chances are they won't find one better than what they have already. They can wait for a RB, but without a 4th round pick they run the risk of getting locked out again and not taking one like last year.

I think their first round pick locks them into what they do in rounds 2 and 3.

I must applaud Jethro & Son. I thought for sure we’d go WR or CB. But we went in the trenches which is a much better building block. And Booker is a 1st round talent while being touted further down. And hopefully sound replacement for Martin .

This is a deep WR draft and there should be ample talent for a WR2 further down. Hopefully we’ll also look to shore up DL in middle rounds.

Now that we are back to three 1st round picks on OL we don’t need a 1st round talent at RB. There’s two picks I’m looking at for RB with Arizona State in 3rd round or Texas Tech in 5th round .
I liked the pick. I know what Jerry is trying to do yet again with the OL. But if I'm the old fossil that is Jerry, if Burden is still there at pick 39 or 40, I try using my two 5th rounders to move up with either the Bears or Saints. They probably won't do it, but it fits the value chart. Worth a try. Then trade for Breece Hall. You cover both positions in one fell swoop. Hall is better than any RB left on the board by round 3.

I never ever thought a wr for example, made any sense at 12. I was right. I got flack on here for it. I even mentioned how Booker made sense . Turns out, I got lucky and was correct. The kid just checks all the boxes for me. A no brainer. Good post.

So, now that I've had a good night's sleep, I am more receptive to the Booker pick. I admit, last night, I was quite underwhelmed with it. But, it actually makes a lot of sense to grab the best guard in the draft. And now we have 3 Tyler's on the line!! The Great Wall of Tylers!! LOL

A little bit of context of how we got to three first round onlinemen. Certainly wasn't the plan.
Tyler Smith was drafted to replace Tyron but has end up becoming an All-Pro guard. So rather than moving him to LT which was part of the original plan they drafted Tyler Guyton as the future LT.
Then we had another future Hall of famer retire in Martin Right guard.. so Booker is drafting to replace Martin.
I reckon we had our board stacked , graded just about where we took him. I feel the scouts and coaches got it right.

It really allows us to run our entire scheme offensively if we can pound the rock, protect Dak. We just couldn't do that before. I could care less how or where we find good players, all that matters is we identified our guys and we got them in the building.

I heard he was 8th on their board.

And they should be here well beyond the Prescott era.

Yeah, I did not like WR at 12 either. But people talk about WR every year. I never expected one this draft. Cowboys don't usually go WR in the first unless it's the obvious pick.

All we did was add an Alpha male to the lockerroom last night, on a team that desperately needed one. Micah ain't that. This is the truth. I can't wait to see this kid manhandle Micah in practice and make boy wonder better. This pick will make or break Micah. Sounds crazy, but I think adding a dude like this to our team helps guys on the other side of the ball get better.
