PHILADELPHIA — The Cowboys released guard Ray Dominguez and receiver Jamar Newsome from their practice squad Saturday.

The team is now carrying five players — quarterback Alex Tanney, receiver Tim Benford, safety Jakar Hamilton, cornerback Micah Pellerin and running back Davin Meggett — on its developmental unit. NFL clubs can fill as many as eight spots on their practice squads.

Dominguez was originally acquired by Dallas in January and cut from the active roster in August. Newsome was picked up last month. While Dominguez hasn’t ever played in the regular season, Newsome has appeared in eight regular-season games with Jacksonville and Kansas City, making five catches for 73 yards.

Must be looking at some fresh blood. I like how they are cutting the players they don't think can help and continuing to sign others. Never know when you're going to find the right guy. Does anyone know how often someone comes off the PS and becomes a long term starter for a team?

Because Dallas is carrying 52 players and this is the third season Newsome and Dominguez have been on a practice squad with an NFL team, they would be ineligible to stay on the Cowboys’ developmental unit, per the Article 33 of the CBA.
It's weird that they didn't just keep one of the players that they cut from the 53 man roster which would have avoided this situation.

They must have had plans to sign another player to the 53 man roster but it didn't work out.

I believe this is true as well.

Don't you think Selvie just happened to be someone who could just come along and be a bang it up kind of contributor?

The practice squad needs a linebacker and I wouldn't be Suprised if we sign greenwood back to the practice squad.

I hope you are right about Greenwood. Another DL would not hurt either.

Bill Parcells did this with extreme effect. It keeps players from getting too comfortable and it's a great way to try and find some hidden gem.
