Good job, I could see Daniel Wise over Joe Jackson and maybe Olumba over Iloka but I think this is a good snapshot of where things are at. Injuries probably make the final decisions though, and veterans like Iloka can come on strong in the late preseason games.

Good work. Unfortunately I think you are right about Crawford.

Taco may not make it to the 53, but you are probably right.

I hope Morris is cut.

Sus Filo is a bubble player. I could see it going either way.

Food for thought:

I hope we scour waiver wire and/or cuts in an attempt to upgrade the following positions:

TE: Witten is done and needs to go (also depth at TE).
LB: We probably need one more linebacker (and maybe 2). Lee is made of glass and is probably also done. It would be hard to go short on that position. It’s also a core special teams position)
G: We may be looking for a low cost option at G with upside to replace Sua Filo. Also, if our cap gets out of whack going forward we might try to move Zack Martin (cap related only, obviously)
K: Stay tunes on this one. I think he making the team nervous.
CB: Michael Jackson has looked a bit out of place in the little bit I have seen.
RB: Morris needs to go. I’m not sold on Weber. We also need another solid player, because Zeke may actually sit this year out. If we plan for Zeke to sit the year out and have acceptable substitutes it puts a lot more pressure on Zeke.

I would keep 7 WR's and keep Devin Smith.
I think they keep 9 OL and keep Su'a-filo, but that spot could be used to keep Smith at WR.

Jackson in for Quinn the 1st 2 weeks, yes, but what do they do after that. However, they could use that spot for Smith at WR, or an OL in Su'a-filo, or that 7th LB.
Then they will need to make a decision after 2 weeks.
So they could keep March-Lillard as he is a St's player, and then decide from there.

The 5th S spot will be between Iloka, Powell and Frazier, but don't be surprised if 2 of these 3 are in and Thompson being out. Which is what I lean more toward.
Right now I have Olumba, then Goodwin over Jackson. However Jackson being a draft pick, odds are in his favor.

Michael Jackson reminded me of Terrence Williams. Let's see if he improves next game.

TE:
Witten is staying. I was not enthused when they signed him to return but he has looked better in camp than he did in 2017. He appears to have lost weight and is running better. The key is to limit his snaps.

LB:
There is a good chance they keep March-Lillard. He knows the scheme and has OK ability. I just didn't keep him on my initial roster because he lacks upside.

OG:
The backup OG is Looney.
- McGovern is next but he has not been practicing due to a Pec injury.
- Fleming could play OG if there were 2 injuries at OG/OC during the game.
- They might keep Sua-Filo for depth. The cost to keep vs cut is only 805K.

Kicker:
Maher was OK last season. He had 6 missed Field Goals and 1 blocked. He had zero missed Field Goals in road games played in Dome or Retractable Roof stadiums.

CB:
Mike Jackson is raw at this point but the 5th CB is a developmental position anyway.

RB:
The RB position has a lot of issues up in the air. Probably no need for Morris if Zeke returns. Without Zeke they definitely need a veteran in the mix but I don't know if Morris has enough remaining in the tank. I had a thread asking about options to obtain a mid-level veteran RB that would be an upgrade over Morris. There is highly likely to be one available either as cap cut or by trading a late round pick to get one. The advantage with Morris is that he knows the scheme. Cowboys management says he knows the scheme better than any RB. I'll be surprised if Zeke continues the holdout past game 1.

WR
Devin Smith is interesting. I'm curious to see what he does in the remain PS games.

OL
If McGoven was healthy, I think they would definitely move on from Su'a-Filo, but McGovern is not practicing yet.

DL
Joe Jackson has played well in camp. Better than Taco in the video I've seen of camp and about as good as Armstong; although, the media has hyped Armstrong a bit.

Safety
I don't know if they'll keep 5 Safeties. Thompson has been 3rd on the camp depth chart from what I've seen. Thompson & Wilson were the 2nd string Safeties in the game. If Donovan Wilson is top 4 on the depth chart, then I think 5 is less likely. If he is more of developmental player at this point then I think they would keep 5. They just signed Powell off the street. He should clear waivers and go to he practice squad unless he has a lot of great plays in the upcoming preseason games (Up to 4 PS players can have up to 2 accrued NFL seasons. Powell has 2).

CB
Olumba and Goodwin should be ahead of Jackson because they've been with NFL teams.
- However, Olumba has questionable speed for an NFL CB.
- Olumba should clear waivers. He was on the PS all of last year without being signed away by another team.
- Goodwin is a Special Teams player.
- Goodwin had been with NFL teams since 2014 and has only played 188 snaps on defense.

PUP/IR
It would be rare not to have a player on PUP or IR to start the season.
- Noah Brown is the only possibility to stay on PUP of the 4 currently on it.
- A player or two could end up on IR.
- They need to be on the initial cut to 53 before going to IR to have eligibility to return.
- The Cowboys could cut a player like Goodwin, then move a player to IR, then re-sign Goodwin (see Deonte Thompson last year).

You think Ross is a cut. I thought he did ok last season.
He was terrible on the majority of snaps last season. He would make a splash play on occasion but most often was a liability.

He got benched after the Seattle game (i.e. Inactive but not on the injury report).

Good estimation. I like Olumba over Jackson. Get rid of the FB in order to keep Su'a-Filo or an extra WR - Davis or Smith.

Cowboys are still in need of a #1 receiver.
Cooper would make a nice #2.
.
Cowboys haven't had a REAL #1 wr since THE GREAT MICHAEL IRVIN.
