That Romo and Co. almost made the playoffs (and really should have) with that Oline is remarkable.

You know what's funny is that personnel wise I'd probably say we were better in 2012 but the offensive line is what makes things uneven. Not to mention a young Tyron at right tackle at the time.

Funny, I replied to the OP before reading this but totally agree. Even among the players who bounced back, Free was horrible that year and Bern was hurt. Starting guys like Cook and Dockery was the 2012 version of our DL in 2013. Smith was the only solid player and he was 21 years old. He should have been a Junior in college at that point.

Yeah its clear what the problem was that year was the offensive line and the lack of identity. I remember being pretty high about that offense too. And I believe we were that year weren't we? Was that the year we had about 3 guys with 1k yards? Miles had almost 1000 yards, I believe Dez had 1,000+ and Witten had 1,000+. But that offensive line...boy.......

And how much of a turnover this team has had. Some have been complaining that it shouldn't take a coach more than 2 years to turn a team around. But considering this information I think the organization should be applauded.

Yep.

And I think sometimes the recent teams being able to contend for a playoff spot on the last game of the season considering the talent level (outside a few prime spots) says something.

That's the thing... It was Tyron's 2nd game at LT.

So you had an injured/bad interior line that's been entirely replaced. A young LT making his 2nd start at that position...ever (remember he was rt in college) And Doug Free getting familiar with RT after being LT for a bit.

All learning callahan's new scheme.

Interesting article from back in March talking about roster turnover and ranks all 32 teams with how many players remain on the roster since 2011.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...h-teams-have-had-the-most-nfl-roster-turnover

Cowboys are ranked 12th in the NFL with 15 players remaining.
Indy is how the fewest players remaining with just 7
Green Bay is 32nd with 25 players remaining.

What is interesting to note is that the amount of roster turnover in the league is extremely high, roughly 1/3 of your roster turns over every year on average. So the fact that we have only 24 players remaining from that 2012 game against Seattle is really not that surprising when you look at roster turnover for the other NFL teams as well.

Oh really? I was thinking this was back in his rookie year but yeah in 2012....I think you're right. So this isn't even solid RT Tyron this is LT Tyron who was struggling to make the switch. And if i'm not mistaken Doug Free was CRAP too.

Yeah that was an incredibly poor season for Free. Easily his worst. And Tyron was shaky to start out too.

First three possessions:

Felix Jones fumbles the opening kickoff - leads to FG
Chris Jones has a punt blocked and returned for TD after a 3 and out possession
Romo throws and interception that bounced off of Witten in Seattle territory.

Clearly not a great start to that game.

You left out that Bruce Carter dropped a relatively easy interception on Seattle's first possession following the fumbled kickoff by Felix. Could have held the Seawhawks to no points then.

Jason Witten was still not completely healthy in that second week of the season. He was still recovering from the pre-season spleen injury. His play improved greatly over the remainder of the season compared to his first 3 games that year.

Skill player-wise the offense is almost identical (only regular contributor not on there is Terrance Williams). But interior O-line-wise it's been a complete overhaul.

It's kind of interesting seeing this. Literally the only thing that has changed its a complete overhaul at OG/OC and it paid huge dividends. I wonder how it'll look on the defensive side in two years if we take the same approach.

It would be amazing. So far we have Lawrence at WDE, and Crawford at 3DT. Im hoping Coleman can shore up the one along with Bishop. We need to find a SDE though. The more the better overall.

Coleman should be the backup 3-tech with Bishop as the 1-tech.

Josh Brent has the ability to be a strong 1 Tech at the point of attack. Also you could easily have Melton and Okoye contributing next year as well. And in Marinelli's wave attack you probably get good bench contributions next year from Bishop, Coleman and maybe Whaley. Second year player can make a big jump in performance ala Ron Leary, I think this season is about sorting out the options and next year could see a big jump in performance if we have Lawrence and a draft pick at the DE spots like you say.
