I did a quick review of all of the Cowboys running plays.
In general the RBs got what was available and several times got more than I expected based on the blocking.
The Giants big DT Hankins is a load and caused some problems. Run blocking, especially Zone blocking requires precise timing and the Cowboys timing was just a little off on many plays.
I hate seeing Lucky or Beasley on the front side of a run play which happened several times and they were directly responsible for at least 2 run plays not have bigger gains.
Randle looked good. I keep seeing people say that he was arm tackled, but that was not really a big issue. There were far more plays were I thought he got more yards than expected based on the blocking than there were plays were I thought he should have been better.
McFadden was OK also. I see comments that he was not patient; however, I thought the opposite. There were at least 2 plays were I thought he hesitated too long. He really didn't have enough carries to get much of a feeling for what he can or can't do in this offense.
The Cowboys really like to coach the RBs to get up-field just off Tackle on outside runs, but there were a couple of times were I thought they should have stretched it all the way to the sideline but didn't. I had that same thought at times last year with Murray but I think Randle and definitely McFadden have more speed to get the the outside which was seen on 1 run by McFadden.
Several times the Giants seemed to anticipate run and which side the run was going to before the snap. The Safety came from deep right up to the exact spot of the run on at least one play before the snap. Their defense was also pointing and the run would end up going right where they had been pointing.
Having Dez out makes running more difficult. Defenses are not going to double the other receivers.
Hopefully the new receiver they signed can block, because I don't want to see Beasley or Lucky blocking and the Cowboys ran several times from 3 WR sets.
I'll review the RB's pass blocking and receiving when I review the pass plays.
