Cowboys Rush Defense

The Cowboys this year have the 5th ranked rush defense in the NFL, allowing only 86.8 yards per game. In yards per carry, they're ranked 4th, giving up 3.7 YPC.

Here are the top 5 rushing teams in yards per carry:
Minnesota - 5.8
Miami - 4.8
NY Giants - 4.6
Philadelphia - 4.5
Dallas - 4.5

Dallas is ranked 5th in the NFL this year, not bad. The Cowboys have beaten the other 4 teams on this list (twice against the Giants). So nobody can say our defense has played an easy schedule rushing wise.

An argument can be made that our offense forces other teams to pass because they're playing from behind. But our defense is even better in yards per carry than yards per game, so that theory doesn't hold much water.

Oh yeah, and we still haven't allowed a 100-yard rusher all year.

It's safe to say that I'm not too scared of the Commanders whose offense is based around the 15th best rushing attack in yards per carry at 4.1.

LOL, we almost lost that bragging right on Sunday. It got to a point to where I was waiting for Aikman to say, "Brandon Jacobs is the first rb to rush for 100 yards against the Cowboys"......There is no doubt in my mind that the Skins will not attempt to run the ball more to set up the play action.

We always start slow against the run in almost every game. It would be nice to break that trend against Washington!

NY had a lot of success on sweeps against us and that is what Washington does best. We need to be ready for that!

Nice post. :)

We're following the same pattern SD did. Wade's first year there, they were a top run D, but mediocre against the pass. As time went on, they really broke out against the pass, with all the sacks.

I do agree that we need to watch for those old-school sweeps vs. the Skins. Our corners better put their hard hat on Sunday.

I was worried about that earlier in the game. By the end I was too happy about the way the game was going to think about that. It wasn't until after the game that I found out we'd help him under 100.

Our defense is third in the league in sacks. (And we're 3-0 against the two teams ahead of us.)

Maybe -- gasp -- we have more talent than Wade had when he first got to SD?

(Actually, I know we do. He didn't have Merriman, Phillips, or Castillo at first. But I keep thinking back to all the people saying we couldn't possibly have as good a D as they did because their players were so much more talented. ;))

But five sacks against a team that had only given up eight all year through eight games... That's impressive.
